Location: Windoming | I've used them for years. I just try to make sure the horses can't easily reach the cord and mess with it. |

Location: North Dakota | I'm not allowed to use them at the barn I board at so I ordered a water bucket insulator from smartpak and it did a good job last winter of keeping my mares water from freezing even up here in ND. |

| I've used them for the horses and dogs both and they are great, just keep cord hid or fixed to where they can't get to it. The animals all drank more water with the heated bucket verse cold water. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | I'ved had them for years also. I couldn't imagine not having them in our barn for the winter. I do tie the cords so that the horse does not pull or try to chew. Its a pain to keep clean and sometimes I'll get some that only last a winter. We have them on breakers for safety. The plug is right outside of the stall so we don't have cords lying around. Makes me feel better that they have access to warm water during the night. |

| They're all I use in the winter, and they're great. I agree with the above poster that said they drink more when the water is warm. The ones I buy have the cord wrapped in spring wire, so it's a bit harder for the horses to chew on them. However, I have pretty mouthy horses and none of mine have ever chewed on the wires. They use very little electricity as well. I was running three of the big ones and two little ones last year, during a pretty cold winter, and didn't notice any effect on my power bill. We've gotten down to 15 below, and I've never had one fail to keep the water warm. |

Location: sunny california | my horse has a heated nelson stall waterer for his drinking water, but he is a dunker so i got him trained to dunk in the buckets and drink out of the nelson. in winter I swap out the regular bucket and put in the blue one from tractor supply. the bucket is hung on the inside wall and the cord goes throught the bars of his wall and he never bothers it. works great |

Yes they are safe. They are designed to shut off when the water is gone. Also for saftey measures make sure they are plugged into a GFI. |

Location: Warsaw,NY | I have one in each stall and a 16 gal one gor the pasture never had a problem, the horses drink alot more. the cords have wire wrapped around them to prevent hores from biting them. I never have to worry about their water freezinf and not being able to drink as my guys r huge water drinkers

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | I have 3 of the 16-gallon heated tubs. Two of which I've had almost 10 years! They still work great. For stall use, I put them in a corner and have an opening near the bottom of the stall to run the cord out. We do have the GFI for all barn outlets. The horses definitely drink lots more water with the heated tubs.
As someone mentioned they do need to be cleaned regularly -- hay will sink and hang up around the enclosed heater area at the bottom of the tub. But - that's just good horse -keeping to regularly clean water tubs.
Bought mine from horse.com but Atwood's carries them now. |

Location: Bennett, CO | A GFCI outlet is the most important aspect IMHO. If your barn does not have on, you can buy an adaptor... they do a good job and let me sleep at night! here is an adapter from Home Depot https://www.google.com/shopping/product/1572301645599602611?lsf=seller:8740,store:13209889171633623887,lsfqd:0&prds=oid:17482408605946392615&q=Plug-In+Gfci+Adapter+(3-Wire+Grounding)&hl=en&ei=CjwzWN74E-Sh0wK1pZTYDA&lsft=cm_mmc:Shopping-_-LIAs-_-D27E-_-203741464&lsft=gclid:CNft_rm8utACFdccgQodpZQDtQ
