My Thoughts EXACTLY! I'm sure there are good rescues out there, but IMHO I think 99% of them are just like this or run by someone who could pass for a CoCo Clock. |

I hope they get the care that they need. No animal deserves this |

Location: Running my kids somewhere. | The "rescues" that think they know bests and don't care for the horses are sooooo frustrating. I recently found out that a colt I raised ended up in one of those rescues. By the time I found out the lady had disappeared, the horses were gone, numbers changed and web site gone. I wish I could find him. |

| All the horses seized were rescue horses Off the track they OTTB's they owned a rescue and took really good care of those horses. They had vets out all the time, took the horses to the vet if they needed to. They tended to wounds constantly, They fed the horses 2-3 times A DAY. The lady that reported them has a very large criminal record and she would constantly block the road when they would try to bring feed and water in. They have receipts and everything from the feed to the vet costs. They have farriers out all the time. Most of those horses where injured when they arrived at there rescue. They are always out there working with the horses. When a thoroughbred comes off the track they aren't on all those supplements and who knows what else and it makes them skinny and lose weight. They lose so much weight they look like they are dying and it takes a very long time to get the weight to start coming back, some of those horses just now started gaining weight. These people didn't do anything wrong they where wonderful to those horses. They put there horses before them all the time. Those horses where there world. If they ran out of food then they would go and buy more. They always have hay out there for them and make sure every single horse got fed and taken care of. They are some of the best people I have met. The media is also not showing you all the horses. They are just showing you the skinniest horses and making the whole situation a lot worse then it actually is. They tried showing the Sherriff the receipts and everything and he just blew them off. The dead horses died of colic not from starvation and I know most of you guys know you can't help colic if you can you are very lucky and they did bury them. I guess what i'm asking is that you guys please just wait before you judge because the media makes things way worse then it is and theses people where just trying to do the right thing. They also have documents of everything.
They also wormed the horses every few months.

Maybe you should fact check again
They wouldn't have seized them if they were truly being cared for...
Really Dead horses died of colic - if you can't afford vet care you shouldn't have a rescue.... Oh please it's not rocket science on how to feed a malnutritioned horse... Guessing they didn't document very well

THAT statement is just plain ludicrous ..... Additionally, I only saw 2 or 3 feed buckets and NO water in the water tanks.....they "might" have been feeding hay since it looked like two fresh bales were out. I doubt seriously if grain was part of their feed ration.

You sound like a very young girl and a family member. But horses that come off the track DO NOT look like they are dying, they are taking very good care of during their training or while being ran. The horses we see on here have been starving a long time, NO EXCUSE for this.. |

But I will say this. Part of what the responder said is true. Horses who come off the track go through enormous changes. In their diet, routine and basic life style. Some can't cope and loose weight.
People on here have said the same thing when theirs come home from the trainers. Whether it is barrels, cutting or whatever.
Give her a break on that one. |

No excuse to be dying and starved. I have had horses off the track and come home from trainers, they never looked like they were dying. Yes loose weight but not looking like what these look like. I guess what I expect horses to look like is not the same as yours. |

I know that. I already read the whole thing on Rate My Horse web page Friday.
I think that the person responding just signed up to defend them. Sometimes the truth hurts, as it does this person. Yet it is necessary to show that people don't take care of their animals well and there are consequences.
They seem young too. Maybe their family told them that is how they are supposed to look. Let us all educate them so they are realize what these people did was wrong so they don't repeat the same mistakes. |

Poster is a member of that rescue group on fb. I read this same thing on their page.
There were way to many starved horses and dead horses that were seized. They were'nt taken just for ****z and grinz obviously. I wish when these groups run into trouble with not having the means to feed these rescues, they would ask for help if they are over whelmed and need feed. Most horse people band together to help each other out in times of need. I hope these horse all make it back to good health again. Such a sad deal.
Eta:It was actually her response to someone else's comment, just to clarify, I'm not in that group itself.

We have purchased horses off the track... Quarter Horses. Some were on stuff and did 'deflate' but never looked starved like those did. They did lose some weight and didn't look as 'beefy' as they did. But....NEVER looked starved and had a hard time just walking. So that excuse doesn't work either. Those pictures were bad. And I also agree that the Law would not have taken them if they were truly fed and healthy. So, no...I am not giving her a break on that one either. |
