I am planning on breeding to Dash Ta Fame this spring and deciding between my daughter of Merridoc or daughter of Lanes Leinster? Both daughters were race earners in their early years. What are your thoughts?

First, I would love to be in your shoes right now!! I wish that was my problem!! But I would go with the Lanes Leinster based on the information. Lanes Leinster is the Number 1 magic cross on Dash Ta Fame (If I remember right). Cant wait to see the foal down the road though!

Sorry I don't have any advice

I've always heard (and seen) that many of the Merridoc's are very silly and fragile-minded, but they really have quick speed. Like the DTF's are not silly enough alone, I think I'd go with the Lanes Leinster.

I've never seen a fragile minded or silly Merridoc. I had a son and have been around several direct get. They do have a playful side, but the ones I've known had a huge work ethic and were not fragile minded or hot at all.

My worry with breeding DTF and Merridoc would be the doubling up of Tinys Gay and Anchor Watch through the Rocket Bar on both sides. That TG and AW cross has been pretty much proven to produce sway backs sometimes. If that doesn't bother you then I'd go with the Merridoc myself. I'm not really a Lanes Leinster fan.

My favorite futurity colt I ever owned was a DTF out of a LL daughter.... it would be a no brainer for me! Lol. My mare was big, pretty and tough as nails. I've very seldom seen a horse with that cross that I didn't like.

Lanes Leinster is a magic cross so I would go with that! I bred a daughter of Famous Lane (now in Brazil) who is DTF x Lanes Leinster to a son of Dr Nick Bar last year and got an awesome colt that I am happy with and he has a great personality! DTF also crosses well with Dr. Nick Bar's so hopefully one of the crosses work haha!
The other Lanes Leinster daughter we have is a 1D horse if that helps at all too :)

DASH TA FAME's dam is by TINYS GAY which gives his get that turning power
around the barrels and is carried on thru his sons and daughters.
If you want a very unique and desired filly or stud colt breed to your MERRIDOC // TINYS GAY mare ... these genes will attract race horse
breeders and poles and barrel horse racers wanting the TG genes
and turning abilities in their babies.
Your baby will be one of the youngest get of DTF for years to come
so make a good decision on your choice of mares. There are so
many sons of DTF available and not one of them has stepped forward
as a leading barrel horse sire to even come close to DTF ...
Here is a fake baby with DTF and crossed on a MERRIDOC mare ...
so you can see the 3S x 3D line breeding of TINYS GAY ...
That will give you 25% TG genes from top and bottom in a baby .. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/fame+n+merri
Look at TINYS GAY pedigree comments section ... he came in
2nd at the All American Futurity by a head ... or he would have
been a Triple Crown winner like Special Effort ... http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/tinys+gay
As you can see the TINY GAY genes are alive and still winning
and having a TG mare is something you want to carry on for
more generations ...
If you have a colt it might be the one to be the barrel horse sire
of the future and not like so many other sons of DTF that are just
hit and run sires of winners ...
