I was looking at Shiloh's web site, and I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between the Shiloh barrel race and the Shiloh Contender. Which tree do you like better? And are the newer Shiloh's as good as the older ones? Thanks!

The Shiloh tree is straighter and doesn't sit as deep. The contender fits a shapier horse--more shoulder flare and twist--it sits deeper, the cantle is higher, and has undercut swells which makes the seat feel bigger.  The skirt seems smaller to me, but I haven't measured to compare.   Either saddle rides very balanced.

ETA:  my fave is the Jerri Mann tree. The bars are a flatter angle, the cantle on mine is higher and more scooped out to accommodate a butt, and my hiney doesn't move unless I want it to--no matter what crazy move a horse pulls on me.

I fully intended to buy a Jerri Mann Shiloh today, it was my size and had the right bars and gullet width, but the gal who had it sold it yesterday. I don't blame her, as I couldn't get there as quickly as the other person could. Sooo, I'm looking at other ones as now I'm back searching for a saddle again.
