I buy alot of used belting from local contractors that worknin our mills. I have used it for a million and ten things at our place. I joticed yesterday I needed some more for myself for mud control in one paddock. I figured I would be nice and open up and take some orders since people have been asking me abot more belting for the last two months. Well as of right now I have 20 plus people wanting large orders of cut to size belting. This takes me several days and alot of work to fill. I price it extremely well and affordable. The problem is I have been stood up on orders in the past, yes they get sold it just takes me more time then I appreciate. Would it be wrong of me to ask for money up front before I cut and haul belting? 2Wgat kind of time frame would be appropriate? It usually takes me a week to cut and haul that big of orders because I do it after work, but our weather is suppose to get nasty. Would taking payment and making people wait 2 1/2 weeks at the most he wrong?

Definately ask for at least a deposit up front. I make rope tack and I get screwed over a lot by people that order then change their minds once I have items ready to go.

If people really want it then they'll pay ahead. Those that are upset by it may very well be the ones who back out.
Asking for 50% deposit upfront and the rest on delivery is not unreasonable. Just be clear about the time it will take you and keep them updated on any changes to that timeframe.
Clear communication is the key. People will get worried and angry if you say two weeks and four weeks later it's not ready. Just be upfront and everything should be golden :)
