| Next year we have some pretty big divisional barrel races in our area, in addition to the many rodeos we have during the summer months, which are all sanctioned through different associations. I cannot afford to do it all so I am trying to decide what to go to. I have a finished horse that can run anywhere so I can go either way. I cannot decide if I want to just stick to one association and go to rodeos, or not even by my card and just go to the bigger divisional shows. I enjoy both.
I’m curious to know how everyone decides where they are going with so much going on. What are some things that you factor into making your decision?

| It pretty much all comes down to money. Distance to show? Stall fee? Electric fee? Shavings? Tie out fee? Entry fee? What's the payout? Is it guaranteed $$ or does it have to have a certain # of entries? If I give up one big show to hit 2 smaller shows; how does the $$ compare? That type thing.
I fully understand we aren't in this to make $$, but I at least try to hold my pennies together. LOL. |

| Depends on what you like best; going and making your run, the loading up and going home/next one or being committed to one location and one pen for the weekend. I only like divisional stuff if my friends are there or I have several horses to work. Otherwise, I want to go run and get back out. Just depends. |

I agree 100%. I wish more barrel racers would do the math on the actual % of our money that we could POTENTIALLY win back! That said, there are a few arenas that I love so much that I'll attend the BR as long as I'm looking to win 50% of my money (which is horrible). We are starting to have more choices in this area, too- but I live near BFE, so I'm still driving close to 200 miles to a lot of the barrel races and rodeos.
My kids are both rodeoing, so I'd like to get my horse running decent enough to attend some of the ammy rodeos- that way my daughter can run 4 events, my son can enter 2 and I can still run barrels. We can maximize our fuel money! HAHA |

| We live at the apex of 3 different nbha districts, plus have big added money 3 day 5D races, and rodeos. Luckily for us 90% of the local rodeos are all sanctioned by the same association, and many of them by the same second or 3rd association. Planned right and with good results (obviously) you can qualify for 3 rodeo finals at mostly the same rodeos.
That being said winter homework on distances, schedules, payback etc.
Our heavy rodeo season is July and August with just a couple before then. I like the big 5Ds because they pay pretty well and I can run multiple horses, so I'll probably hit quite of few of those early on in the season and then rodeo as long as we are hitting the 1D/2D consistently. If we aren't I won't put the money into rodeo entries and I'll keep jackpotting and working on it.
I pepper in the nbha's and I other single day jackpots when they are close and I need a run. They don't pay very well though and compared to the bigger races nickel and dime you on the fees. |

This is how I look at it as well. I try to go where I'm going to get the most bang for my buck with the best ground. I try to avoid equal payouts, guaranteed payouts, and late fees! LOL |
