Got the phone call today and the orders are in, we will be moving to Idaho come July/August! I was really hoping for Florida, but I guess Idaho is not so bad. So the search is on to start looking for a good solid boarding place, a place to live and a job will come in a few months.
I hope the barrel racing scene is happening up there. Any Idaho barrel racers on here? I know a few people who are from Idaho and absolutely loved it. Lots of horse country! |

| I don't know about the barrel racing scene but my brother and his family have lived there for 30 years and love it. My good friends daughter could live anywhere she wanted and she and her husband chose Boise. Good luck with he move! |

| I wanna move there too!
I think that you need to be more precise in location when looking for a boarding barn and barrel races. It is a long way from Northern Idaho to Southern Idaho and one is likely to go in a different direction depending on where one is located.
Enjoy!

Girl welcome to the best barrel racing in the state There are several really good producers here (well run good ground fast moving) and you can hit up a race every weekend and a lot of the times during the week as well. Another benefit of this valley is you have easy access to surrounding states/regions as well for barrels and rodeo. We aren't trapped on all sides by mountains like a lot of the state, or so secluded that nothing is happening. Weather is pretty good here, our summers are hot but not insane and if you're gritty you can ride year round. Right now it's 17 degrees lol. We have a couple different winter series' going on as we speak... This is also a big playday area o-mok-see to be specific so if you are looking to diversify speed events its here. Same with working cow there's an arena about ten minutes from me that does ladies night roping every wednesday. Also, great trail riding with hills! and mountains! Within 20 minutes!
Anyways, weather starts improving around feburary and I rode outside this year until after thanksgiving. PM me and I can give you some good/great boarding facility names and numbers. I live right in the valley at the moment and would love to meet/ride with you! Cost of living here is fairly high compared to the rest of the state but that's not saying much... My roommate and I pay 1200 a month for a house on 5 acres within ten minutes of the city. The housing and job market is on the rise, and its large city but the outskirts still have a small town feel. |

Redsman,
Sounds awesome!! Would love to meet and ride with you when we get up there! I'm working on the whole gritty thing! lol It has been in the 20's(give or take) here and I rode today, it was in the 40's and I swear it was tshirt weather! lol I am working on getting that winter thing going on.
We will be looking for a house to live in! probably not horse property, as I think pasture boarding would be more financially beneficial because we cannot afford to build an indoor arena and pastures and all that, would prefer to pay someone to provide that for me. lol Out here I pay $120 a month for pasture boarding and I have a whole bunch of goodies I wouldn't get if I had my own place, so I prefer to board for the moment :) Was looking at jobs too, and it looks promising :) |

All good things!! Winter can be brutal but at the same time doesn't last as long as a lot of places... I lived in eastern I Idaho for a while and my first winter it was blowing snow sideways and -17 not including the wind chill. My tank heaters couldn't keep up There's a few places with indoors that are available. I actually haul to one in Nampa (20 min away from my house) and pay to ride. One whole wall is mirrors so its really nice. That's the other thing, the roads generally don't stay really bad a lot of times it will warm up enough to thaw them for safe trailer driving but not enough to thaw the ground around haha. |

Location: Idaho | Im in North Central Idaho, ( close to Lewiston) about 3-4 hours from Boise. Ive lived most of my life in Idaho with some time spent in Nevada near Las Vegas and in Eastern Washington. I honestly wouldnt live anywhere else. Idaho, especially the Boise area, is a great hub for getting to a lot of big rodeos and races without having to go too far. A few hours (if that much) in any direction can get you to some good events. Winters where Im from can be tough, but the summers are totally worth it! Id pick Idaho over Florida, anyday! :) IdaHome!!! :) |

Nice!! Well I will have to look into that, I was looking around at some boarding facilities that had indoor arenas. Maybe it is the same place? I am excited about moving, everyone I hear who has lived in Idaho or even visited absolutely loves it, so I sure hope I will too :)
Redman, I will shoot you an email. Would like to know a little more or if you have recommendations :)
Thank you!! |

| I'm moving from Meridian to Texas next week! lol The barrel racing isn't too bad in the summer...there's usually always at least one race a week and sometimes multiple. There are tons of places to board and I can let you know some of the places I know of, it just kind of depends on what you're looking for! |

| Hey we are planning a move to Idaho this summer too. My daughter-in-law is from Nampa and we have been looking around that area. However we are not for sure where we will end up. My husband and I are considering a trip in a few months to check some property out we have seen on line. I too am interested in the barrel racing but from what I can tell it is pretty active there. Seems like property is pretty high too, especially if there is any irrigation. This will be a whole new ballgame as we live in Missouri and moisture is not a problem. But, don't have to worry about tornados there !!! We are excited and looking forward to it.

Location: Oklahoma | Hello! I moved to Nampa from Eastern OK (now back in OK) several years ago. One thing I will advise, be prepared for EVERYTHING horse related to cost more! Shoeing, Vet work, feed, hay......everything. I'm not sure how many horses you will be taking with you but if you have to pay a farrier, be prepared to sell body parts to pay for it! I have nothing but good things to say otherwise. :) |

| Welcome!! This area is great for barrel racing. There are a lot of local producers, and like others have mentioned, there's usually a place to run at least once a week. The races in Caldwell have some of the best ground I've ever run on. There's also lots of local ammy rodeos if that's more your scene. There's a lot of local cutting/reining/racing trainers and breeders, so it's easy to pick up prospects without having to pay the high ticket barrel horses prices. There are a lot of ladies in the Treasure Valley that are dang good, so you always have people to watch and learn from. We're happy to have you!

Location: Idaho | Aww thanks guys!! Well, I am excited to move, I'm sure it will be nice. I will be bringing just one horse with me for now, maybe when I get up there and find a job and such, I will probably be adding to that herd! Unfortunately for me I am exceptionally picky, it's really hard for me to find another horse.
What kind of prices are we talking? I'm originally from Las Vegas, so I am used to higher prices.. but I say, as long as the service is good and my boy is taken care of, then I don't mind the price just as long as it is not an arm and a leg! Just a matter of shopping around I guess.
Looking forward to hopefully meeting you all!! :) |

I pay $125 for a full set. not sure what he charges everyone else but he's been my guy for like ten years. I paid $130 a ton this year for half my hay then got the rest from a friend for $90. I don't board but do ride most places that board horses so I can't tell you price wise much there but can as far as what the ground is like etc. |
