Location: Montana | Your opinions on going with a treeless saddle on a young horse (2 to 3 year old). I've only ridden treed but I'm having a hard time finding the right fit on a treed saddle. Considering flex trees too. Thanks!
Also: When going with a treeless and you are used to riding treed saddle, what would be my best bet for the transition? I'm aware of Bob Marshall, Tammy Fischer, Jackie Jatzlau, and the Just B Natural. I'd love pros and cons of each. Thanks!

Location: Durango CO | I tried a Tammy on my 2 year old and it slide all over. I wish it would have worked. My experience is they don't have enough back yet to hold a treeless. |

Good to know, thank you! |

Location: run2win land | I use the Deb Sibley by Panther Canyon treeless. Has a more standard fit than a Bob Marshall. I have used it on a 2yo with hardly any withers. I use a closed cell pad to help it "stick". I also have used it on my wide horses and then more regular fit. No issues whatsoever. I prefer the PC saddle because it doesn't roll around like a BM and doesn't fold up. When my horse is driving out of the turn and I'm using the horn, I need it to stay in position and not come back at me like a BM does. |

I'm interested in Debra Sibley saddles and have considered getting one for this horse but I thought they were a flex tree? |

yes, I have a Deb Sibley and they are a flex tree. I don't love using them on young horses because there is not as much stability in them. They don't quite fold in half like a bob marshall do but their trees are very flexible and can have a quite a bit of motion in them. So if I have a fear of a broncy colt, I try and avoid flex trees. However, I love my sibley and it rides much more like a regular treed vs bob marshalls are a much different fit for the rider. |

Yes you are right they are a flex tree, not treeless.. A Deb Sibly is a saddle I would not want to use on a young horse. I would rather go with a Bob Marshall if I were to use one on a young horse..But I dont think a Bob Marshall is the way to go either on a young'un, like another poster said they dont have the top line are withers for one.. |

I'm not sure the pics are any help, I had to resize them to fit and now they are fairly small. We have had so much snow and cold I haven't had a chance to get any different ones, or one straight from the back (maybe if the snow drifts freeze I can stand on one to get one from the back, LOL).

So the Court saddle your using now rolls? I would go with a gullet a tad narrower if thats the case, Have you tryed a older Martha Josey or a older Sharon Camarillo? |

Just saw this, I haven't tried either the Martha Josey or the older Sharon Camarillo...at least yet. I guess I should have seen this before I wrote my other post, LOL. |

Location: Idaho | She's a cutie! She looks like my guy's build when he was younger.
On my gelding when he was growing, I used a few different saddles. I went from using a Bob Marshall to start, then switched over to my super wide courts then switched to my 7 1/2" Gullet Teskey, but I always got one a little bigger for him to grow into and I used a CSI pad to help protect him as he grew. I think it's better to go bigger then fill in the gaps rather than going too small. I never had any saddle fit issues, never had any soreness. My CSI was a life saver. He is now in a 8" Gullet Courts Sharon Camarillo and he is going on 6 years old. He has turned into a almost no withers, mutton withered stocky boy.
Hope this helps! |

Thanks very much! I have her in a 7" gullet FQHB Courts saddle now, and no success. Could you please tell me what the CSI does? I was thinking about trying a 5 Star. |

You don't have to clear the shoulder blades with a Bob Marshall because there are no bars on it. A Bob Marshall or any true treeless totally frees up the shoulders. |

Also, I usually ride with a saddleright pad. It's not real thick but offers a lot of support for their back. If your horse doesn't have much withers then you may have to use a thinner felt pad. I like the Bob Marshall and the Jackie's the best. |

Well, the CSI pad is a saddle pad that has a flex plate inside of it. It helps balance the pressure of the saddle and the rider on the horses back. Here is a link to their website..
https://www.csisaddlepads.com/why-csi-saddlepads/
This pad came highly recommended from a lot of my good friends because like you, I was worried about a saddle fit on my (now) gelding. I started him as a 3 year old.. he is now turning 6 in May. I have used the CSI from the beginning after I moved him out of the Bob Marshall. It is the best $300 I ever spent, and the pads come with a 5 year warranty. If something goes wrong with it, they will replace it. I even sold my wade pad so I can get another. This pad helped so much, like I said my gelding never had back issues and was even checked by a chiro a few times just to be sure, and he was fine!
I would highly recommend looking into a CSI, you will not be disappointed! Then look at getting a wider gullet and wider bars. Oh and I would say get a fleece or wool liner, I tried one with the neoprene liner and it just didn't feel right. But I love them and I'm not going back to anything else.

Very good to know...this one has a little buck when she's fresh (nothing terrible, just a kick out or two), so it sounds like I may not want to go with a treeless on her yet. |
