I see alot of them. However I have yet to personally see a single one who has actually made a tuff 1D horse or rodeo horse. I'm not talking a useful 2 or 3D horse, I'm talking tuff at big races or futurities.

some of them can be really heavy front ended, mr jess perry is made that way.  For the most part, horses made that way are hard to keep balanced and can take a lot more riding in my opinion.

They don't have an excessive amount of mental soundness. The few I've been around woke up in a different world everyday.

I ride a daughter of Jesse James JR (dam is a daughter of Bold Episode) and LOVE her mind and how easy she was to start and train, but yes she is very front end heavy and lazy and I can't get ANY run out of her unless I breeze, her but nothing when it comes to the arena :( She was my futurity horse this year and mentally and physically ready but she won't go! I do suspect I am dealing with possibly soreness somewhere after watching my videos over the course of the year but I think it's also just her. She's also very much has a rocking horse style if that makes sense? Not sure if other MJP are that way but she lopes like im riding a rocking horse! Of course when I booked the chiro out a few days ago she stuck her leg through a board and chiped her sesamoid bone and got an infection in her DDFT  $$$ But anyway, I love her personality and definitely how she is built (looks just like JJJ/MJP) but the push style and front endiness is not my thing so we'll see what I end up doing with her.
I know one other JJJ that was sadly put down yesterday at age 7 (not sure why, sickness??) but he was a 1D barrel horse so I hold out hope!

A lot of them are track horses, meant for their speed in a straight line, they make good crosses with anything cowy for that reason.

How close up on the MJP?  Our best futurity horse this year (Three Tymes A Lady) is by Tres Seis but her 2nd dam is by MJP.  She won one futurity and placed at every single one we entered her at from June-October of this year.  And my husband shot off of her the year before as a 4 year old at mounted shooting events.  So her mind is actually quite good, he actually shot on her when he could, also between futurities this year.  She'll be run in derbies this coming year.

Edited to add, we also have another super nice one coming up for next year that is by Valiant Hero and out of a MJP daughter (her dam is actually a full sister to Red Storm Cat).  Also super quiet minded but has a lot of speed.

I have a MJP grand daughter that I absolutely love. She is 3 coming 4 and by far the smartest best minded young horse I have ever been around. She just does everything you ask of her and tries hard. I'm excited to see how she turns out

I also ride a son of Jesse James Jr. He absolutely looks amazing , he is the sweetest horse you will ever be around. Was running 1d as a 4 year old then mentally went absolutely backwards. He never got mad or anything just decided one day he wasn't sure he wanted to run barrels anymore. He has slowly come back and is a solid top of 3D but makes the same run every time. He is coming 6 now. His mom is by DTF so hopefully he turns the corner. They are late to mentally mature.

I was told this by an older gentleman.
He says" if you want fast and forward buy a speed bred, if you want gritty and quick buy a cow / cutting bred, but barrel horses are made from cowy old foundation daddies and gritty fast mommas"

I sure hope they can be successful I now have a App grandson (out of Jess Mr Perry) out of a race bred App mare. He was successful on the track and I don't know who to credit for his mind, genetics or the guy I got him from, but you would never know he was OTT. His biggest hole is right now he needs to be seasoned and has to get in the pen and "see" before making a run.

I REALLY hope that he makes a good rodeo horse because I like him so much that if he doesn't I don't think I will want to sell him!

I have an own son of Mr Jess Perry and he has an amazing mind! He is one of the most well mannered, sound minded horses I have. He will be a futurity horse and will eventually be standing at stud. I also know of a MJP that was a solid 1d horse around our area up her in the panhandle of Texas with true 1d horses. He was tough to beat.

Janna Beam is riding a 3 year old by him right now. She's won some barrel races and did good in the juvenile in OKC. She's very wicked and quick. Back in October cruised a 15.1 at the Lucky Dog race. The exhibition barrels were on the stakes. She was started late also.
I know you're asking about rodeo horses but I feel this filly would make one for sure.

This colt was a solid 1D futurity placer and now is being rodeo seasoned, he is by our MJP son, Pistol Packin Perry.  We have a small foal crop by Pistol but so far we sure can not complain about them. I dont feel like he is heavy in the front end and he hasnt produced front end heavy horses either, could be that he is out of a daughter of Takin On The Cash, he is actually really balanced and seems to produce that.

I have a 7 and 5 year.  Both are really nice MJP granddaughters.  They both started running this year.  One in January. One in April.  The seven year old is running 1D/2D locally against tough horses.  The 5 year old ran in 1D Seniors at world.  She loves indoor pens.  Both were off 3mos during summer.  They are both out of cowbred mare.  They both are amazing. 2017 will be very exciting

I have a Grandson of him, while yes he has taken MUCH longer mentally than I would have liked he literally will do anything to please you and will do anything you ask him. We had a minor problem with him being a wimp but our standards may have been a little high because of being used to cowbred working lines. BUT I would not hesitate to purchase another one.

I had a very promising 3YO granddaughter of MJP, she was by rock solid jess. She had an injury as a foal that I didn't know about and ended up with ringbone at 3, so I sold her as a broodmare. You could see on the x-rays where she had an old coffin bone fracture that healed. Probably did something silly as a weanling and hurt herself.

My trainer has a grandson of Mr Jess Perry. He got a bit of a late start but is running in the 1D everywhere he goes. Super disposition. Young stallion by ONTHEWINGSOFGLORY. We put him in the trailer with two mares, the one next to him was in heat. He was in the back slot. Rode like that 5 hours getting home. Never moved, quiet all the way home.

I have a granddaughter by FIRST PRIZE PERRY. Breeding her in the spring. She is quiet and easy to handle. Hope she puts some great barrel babies on the ground.

Can't make a link on my tablet but go to YouTube. Search Shelly Gish 206 2nd go BFA Futurity. That is her stallion.
