Frontline doesn't work for me.  I've used Comfortis and the last time I bought Seresto collars - they seem to be working well.  I think we're 3 months in?

I have worked for a handful of different vets over the last 5 years both small and large, but mostly small. Bravecto is the newest on the market and last 3 months. It works! NexGuard is also great, it lasts 1 month. Those are the only two I recommend or use. They are both prescription which I know many don't do the annual vet thing but they are well worth it.

We use Bravecto for our dogs.  It is a little more expensive than Comfortis but lasts longer, making it cheaper in the long run.

Years back fleas were horrible around here! Frontline didn't do a darn thing for them. Bought K9 advantix ii and have been using it ever since. It works like a charm. My dog will pick up fleas from the barn cats if I don't keep up with it. I've heard bad stories from the pill versions, so I just stick with the advantix.

Are you getting Frontline from your vet, or OTC? I have been told by my dog groomer that Frontline on the shelf isn't nearly as good as the Frontline you can pick up from your vet. The vet confirmed this...but of course they would say that.

We used Trifexis, but my pup wouldn't eat it. I switched to NexGuard. She eats it like it is a treat (along with her HeartGuard) and we have never looked back. I live in Louisiana and I do find ticks on her. I pull them off (gross), and if I find one that I missed it is D-E-D dead. They aren't full of blood either, just get my handy tweezers and out they come.

Bravecto hands down. One pill and they are good for at least 3 months. I haven't found a single flea or tick since we started using this last summer.

Need to talk to the vet about the Bravecto! SO seems to think picking ticks off his dog is a favorite pastime. A pill I can slip him without being noticed would be great!

I use the seresto collar on my girl. We have had ticks around here but find maybe 1 for every 10-15 on the other dog.

I have used frontline and advantix but my favorite is Seresto. They're collars that last 8 months so they are less to keep up with and they cost less than the topical and pill products.

Don't forget to combine your flea prevention with heart worm prevention as well!

Most of our dogs have been on Trifexis but it's so bad tasting its hard to get it down their throats... I tried nexgard and heartgard on one today who is really bad to pill, and he ate them both like they were treats. We plan on putting everything on a combo of heartgard and nexgard now.

Tx3turns - 2016-12-28 1:23 PM Comfortis for both dogs & cats here.

Be careful with cats and Comfortis, it killed my cat.  Yes, it was the correct size cat pill that killed him.  I have never had an issue with my dogs and I love the stuff for our hard to kill, year round fleas down here but I will only use topicals for my cats from now on.

All I will add to this conversation is I'm 2 months into trying to rid my house of fleas. Nothing for house treatment is working 100%. Do what you can to prevent a house issue! These things could survive an apocalypse.

I use Seresto collars for the dogs and inside cat. They work amazing! They are water proof too.
To get rid of them in the house, I used the Advantage (I think) bombs. I bombed the house and garage twice. Vacuum vacuum vacuum! Wash all bedding in as hot water as you can. Then I put the Seresto collars on. Haven't seen a flea since. That was 2 years ago.

I will NOT use the chemical stuff to bomb my house - just can't take the chance on health risks.  I got the stuff from http://www.fleabusters.com/ - and it worked great.  Also used Bravecto on the dogs, other than the pup.

I have had great luck with bravecto. One thing though to keep in mind if a dog has a history of seizures steer clear of bravecto. I had a dog who had seizures & my vet told me to stick with the frontline for him.
Anyone use brewers yeast? I read somewhere it's supposed to be a natural flea repealant. If it would work I'd like to go the more natural method.

Frontline absolutely does NOT work any longer..for whatever reason.  Had to deal with my Frontlined dogs being infested early this fall and it was awful.  I switched them to Bravecto.

thanks for this..I wonder if it's the same as Borax...

I vacuum, i bombed, i've sprayed raid, i've sprinkled borax, hummmmm what else.

I'm down to about 10% of the critters left..but just one can re-infest the house. They say low humidity helps..winter is helping with that and running the furnace. I'm going to probably sprinkle more borax..

I trapped a few of these buggers in a container. Sprinkled borax in with them. Took 4 days to die. It's just inside the house to keep them in contact with Borax unless i'm walking around in the same stuff for days on end (it's like walking on salt).

We're on vacation in a few weeks..i'll coat the house while we're gone if it's still a problem.

I had the opposite experience. Topicals
made my one cat sick. Have not had any problems with Comfortis. Some animals are just sensitive or allergic to different products while others do fine on same product. I have one horse that can't have Quest wormer, all my others can.
Thank you for the heads up and concern. It never hurts to be aware of what could happen.
