I sold this mare several years ago but received a letter from the AQHA wanting me to have her DNA tested. Does anyone have any info on this mare? Gini Justus was the most recent owner I could find.
Thanks

Apparently the horse is still registered in your name. The only reason that I can think of that AQHA would need a DNA test is for someone to register a foal. This would be about the time of year someone would be registering. I would call AQHA and tell them you no longer own the mare. Also it is the SELLERS responsibility to transfer papers. If I buy a horse, I have the papers back from AQHA within 10 days. It is called taking care of business. Who knows where that horse is now.

wow, things haven't changed a bit on here. I did my part as the seller and have no idea why the AQHA contacted me.Was going to try to find her owner before i contacted them. I did take care of my business.

AQHA rules say seller is responsible not me. I meant that as a BUYER I take care of business. in the future I will try to make things a little easier to understand.

I know Gina quite well she bred her so that's probably why she needs to be tested....how can I have her get ahold of you?

That's weird that someone would not transfer a mare in to their name when they have intentions of breeding her.

It happens ALL the time and as a stallion owner it can be a little frustrating!
I went to process a online stallion report a couple years ago with 9 outside mares on it and 8 of them showed up in someone else's name besides who owned the mare at time of breeding! A few were honest mistakes and that's fine but I hate submitting reports with the wrong names on them.

I have bought many horses in my lifetime, me as the buyer have always just got the papers and the signed transfer and just sent them in myself to have the horse put under my name, only once in my lifetime have I bought a horse and the person I bought from did send in the papers to  put the horse in my name, that was the first time that this did happen and was payed for by the owner of the horse, thought that was pretty cool, lol, but never has happen again.

The same thing with me. One seller sent the papers in, the other just handed the papers and a signed transfer into my name. I did have one that didn't get transferred, but it didn't really matter because it was a 22 y/o kids horse.

I'll be honest. As a buyer in this day and age, when I pick up the horse, I want papers & transfer in hand to take care of business myself. I have lost all trust in most horse sellers.

LOL, I was in a bit of shock when the lady tolded me she had already send in the paper work to have the mare put in my name tryed to pay her for the transfer and she refused my money and said it was her pleasure to pay it, then I thought oh noooo she really wanted to get rid of the mare,  but it was all good..

You really don't need "try to make things a little easier to understand" I understood completely. The person I sold the horse to wanted to do all the paperwork. I left them with everything they needed. This was in 2007. almost 10 years ago. All I was trying to do was locate the horse/owner that the AQHA needed to be contacted, not get smart remarks on not" taking care of my business." I could of not done anything about the letter and thrown it in the trash. That would be not taking care of business.

Sad thing is, whoever is the recorded owner of  the mare at time of breeding is listed as the breeder. If that foal is incentive funded, that breeders purse money goes to them. The other problem is IF the mare dies before being DNA'd, that foal cant be registered.

If she sends in the transfer dated 2007 when she actually got the mare will the owner at the time of breeding be the former owner or the one who bought her in 2007?

We were not telling our stories to be smart a**es, sorry if we offended you, we were just telling our stories that hardly anyone that does sell a horse dont send in the paper work, they just hand over the signed transfer and horses papers to the new owner so the new owner can do the transfer themselves and really I would rather do it my self as the new owner so I will know that its being done. Sorry for offending you. Didnt mean to sound like a smart a**..

You do not need to apologize. This was meant for streakysox. I used to be on here years ago and stopped because of "snarky" posts like hers. There are alot of great members on here, alot of valuable info. Too bad there are a few that choose to be "smarta!!" instead of helpful and condescending. Thanks to a great member this issue was resolved.

THIS!!!!!! This is exactly my thoughts, I want all the paperwork, I don't trust someone who has received all their money already n has nothing to lose or gain by sending those papers in for me!!!!

I don't like AQHA's "rule" about this process either!!!!

Totally agree.  Once the seller has my money, what assurance do I have that they are going to do the paperwork?  Not that I have bought or sold that many horses, but I have never had the seller send transfer to AQHA.

I usually sit down with seller, fill out all paperwork, get an envelope out of the truck, enclose check and mail at nearest post office. Then both parties are happy. Also, I don't buy from someone I just get an uncomfortable feeling about and in have left without the horse because of that.
