 Gotta Have a Gray

Location: Tex. Panhandle | What are some favorite saddle pads and why. I currently ride mostly classic equine pads. But need to start looking at replacing some of them. Now .... as much good things as i've heard about CSI pads, I'm not looking to spend $300 on a single pad. Would love to hear what some other people like and why though. There are some many options these days ..... it can get overwhelming |

Location: WI | Depends on the horse for me. I like 5-Stars, but they won't work on my gelding. He gets a CSI. btw, CSI's are like $375 now! |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | First I looked into external materials. I wanted something breathable and cleanable that wouldn't rub the skin and would last long term. (Wool, felt, neoprene etc)
Then I looked at the internal construction. I didn't want something that would feel squishy now but would compress down too flat with pressure over an hour and eventually stay compressed down after a year of use. (Foams, gels etc)
I was a Tod Sloner for a long time until 5star came out with a contoured shape and softer/ less scratchy material. Personally I have found the memory foams and gels get squished down over an hours worth of riding and only fluff back up so many times and with a 5 hour trail ride I needed support that didn't go away after an hour.

Location: Arizona | For my higher withered horses I love my 5-star wool pad. I have owned it for years and it's the best pad ever!! For my more round back horses I like using the Saddleright pad. It keeps the saddle from slipping. Love it!! |

| There is a used csi page on Facebook where you can get a used one for under 300.
I have a used csi I bought 4 years ago it is my go to pad as it is more flexible, contours to the horse better then my newer ones as they are not broken in yet.
If you are buying used, just make sure you are not paying 200 plus for one that has a neoprene liner as you will need to replace the liner as they do break down. |

Same. We used Tod Slones and MANY of them for years and years. Heard the hype of 5 Star about 10 years ago and they are all I will buy now. The topline contour and wool density while remaining soft are what really sets it apart.
If I were to try another pad, I'd like to try a Saddleright. |

Location: GODS country | I love my 5 Stars....until I tried a CSI!! However, I do not like CSI pads on super wide/barrel backed/no wither horses...I prefer the 5 star for that type. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | Looks like I'm the odd one out, but I LOVE LOVE the Classic Equine Zone pads. I have a horse that seems to be sensitive with anything on his back. After many trial and errors I found this to be the best for him. Its super shock absorbing and fits well with my saddles. I have 5 of them, they hold up great! |

There's a video on YouTube. Hang it up by the wither cutout (try to curry off as much hair before starting). Rinse, and then use EZ all or EQ Solutions horse wash to clean it. I let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse clean. Then dry on a panel out of the sun. |
