I am starting to look for a new saddle.  I will want it to be customized for my mount.  While I really want a Stoney, I have champane taste on a beer budget.   I currently ride a Charmayne Cactus.  I know there are a ton of custom saddle makers out there, but I have not shopped for one in 10 years.

Can you all give me suggestions on a mid-level (price) saddle to research?

Thanks!

I don't know where you're located, but I took my horse up to Jeremy Bethune and had him fit her for a Pro Rider. Once we determined the tree that fit her, I had it built custom how I like it. I didn't go crazy with upgrades or decor and was able to keep it reasonable.
I know that Pro Riders won't necessarily work for every horse because (I think) their trees are pretty much all the same build except for the width of the gullet.

I just had a custom Burns saddle made. Wish I would have had one done years ago. It is amazing and fits so well. It's like a work of art. Very well made and the ground seat is amazing. I would get another in a heartbeat

THIS - I love my Shiloh Contender!  Mine is a 2009 model and I bought it after Stacy modified the tree to be more open in the shoulders.  No other saddle for the money (I'm not comparing it to a Caldwell or custom made saddle) has fit more horses that I've ridden.  From our 15.3 DFP gelding to my little 14.1 cow-bred gelding, I only modify what pad I'm using.  Base price at the time was $1,350 and mine has an upgraded elk seat...doubtful I'll ever ride in anything else.

Check out G Bar G. Once I have some debt paid down, I will be purchasing one! There's options for regular or wide tree, and you can make them as plain or as fancy as you want.

Herbie on here posted on facebook a few weeks ago about some saddles made by Green Custom Saddlery.. super nice saddles. They make saddles for many top saddle companies from what I understood. Around $1500 new. I will be purchasing one once I get some vet bills paid off. They have a facebook page!

I also think Shiloh!!  I have 3 of them and love them all, fits a wide variety of horses and to me it has a more close contact feel to them.  For the money I will not ride in anything else.
