I have 3 broodmares I am wanting to sell, all cow bloodlines but I am wondering when the best time of year would be to sell! The one mare I want to keep her 2017 foal for sure but the other two I would sell bred! Has anyone sold a mare but wanted to keep the baby in uterus/at her side? How does that work? The one mare is broke to ride and this is only her second foal! Would I get more money out of her to get her back in shape and sell her?

I really think it depends on how well they are bred. If they are own dtrs of really well known cow lines then they will always be worth money. I really don't think the price will change much if broke or not broke vs in shape or not. Once you put the title broodmare the only thing that really makes a difference is bloodlines and confirmation. And in my opinion you will prevent ppl from buying the mare if you want the baby in uterus or on her side. If that is the case just keep her until the foal is weaned. Unless they live close and you know them, it is just risky and most ppl shy away from it, especially when there are plenty of 2 or 3 in 1 deals out there.
And the best time of year is usually now through breeding season or right after if she is bred back to a nice stud.
