Location: Idaho | I never do these, for the most part I am a browser and post occasionally when I have something I need to work on! But.. this is going to be a positive post. I am very excited about this year, me and my 5 (almost 6) year old are going to start going to barrel races to actually compete. I have taken him super slow, I started him the beginning of last year on barrels and poles and have not been overly aggressive about it. Just mostly working a pattern here or there, going on trail rides, getting him used to new pens and areas, working cows and doing a bunch of new things. I didn't want to push him.. but now, it is the beginning of a new year and I think it is time!
It has been about 2 years since I have actually competed, my main gelding passed away in 2014 and my other gelding I was trying to run, just didn't like it. So now my colt, who is now my amazing 5 year old (who I have had since he was 11 months old, did all the training and fine tuning on him with a LOT of guidance) and have recently started to teach him how to run, and I feel like we are ready to rock and roll! I know the seasoning will take time and I'm sure he will get faster as the time continues on, as he gets more comfortable. I'm really excited and nervous, and trying not to psyche myself out because the competition around here is tough! lol Probably being out of it for two years certainly has an impact lol
Here are some recent video's of my working barrels and poles :) He is a Shining Spark/Zan Parr Bar bred.
