Trying to find a mouthpiece my gelding would like...
Long story short!!

LOVE LOVE LOVEEE him in a simplicity bit twisted wire mouth piece, he's a working if I don't pick him up he'all scrub barrels over. This bit works great for he and I! I LOVE IT!
Promvlem is after a handful of runs he starts to bend in half with me on the back side (no matter how much schooling I do, even if he doesn't need it or What I warm him up in, still to bendy)

Old owners loved him in a five but with twisted wire, I like the way he feels in this also, but doesn't have quite enough lift for me (I'm little, he's strong)

So here I am riding him at home in a 5 bit and rotating between a simplicity bit twisted wire and med shank combo at rodeos/barrel races. Need some opinions!

** I'm not a bit person by anymeans but the fact the simplicity has such a quick release (if that makes sense) he loves.
I was using a normal med shank bit but it was almost like I hung on him a little longer than he liked and he just wasn't a fan.
I love the simplicity but is there different mouthpiece that may keep him stiffer?

Edited to add.. what about the perfect bit?? I had one a long while ago and loved the way they were made but wasn't sure thought I'd throw that out there!

Keep the 5 bit. Try a hex mouth piece flipped on it's edge or just do some softening exercises and back him off the bit. If a horse gets strong after making multiple runs then they are taking the bit from you IMO and you need to tune on them after a run or two and back them off the bit so they stay soft.

Don't ride in the 5 bit at home. My bendy horse I ride in a short shank lifter and work on keeping her light in the mouth.

I'm a big fan of Mullen mouth bits on horses that sound like yours. The short shank Lynn Mackenzie myler sweet iron low port and the Ed Wright short shank with mullen mouth are two of my favorites.

I like the Kathy James bit. I tried this because I thought it would work similar to the simplicity, but had more weight than the simplicity. I don't feel mine get over bendy in it.

It's not necessarly that he is getting strong he's just naturally a strong type horse but after a handful of runs he gets to bendy! He'all bend in half with me on the backside of the barrels.

I was thinking maybe a no but bit? Or not sure what the exact name but it's the same as a simplicity bit but with a nose band. I like the Kathy games but I have so many shakes bits I've tried on him with no success.

Do you feel you are giving him the same ride every time?

I have a one who will fold himself in half if I need him too, and usually when we have problems it's because I'm using too much hand in relation to the amount of leg I'm using.

Compared to my other horse he moves very big and feels like he has the afterburners on all the time, that typically makes me back off how much I push him up into my hand and gives him the chance to be too bendy.

That aside I plan to try him in a hack this year and if I don't care for that a Connie combs stabilizer is next on my list, but at the top of it is me using more leg.

The more breaks in the bit, the more bend. Which mouth piece are you currently using, I know you said twisted wire but is it dog bone, two-piece?
