Okay so I'm trying to figure out my best option to give all 6 of my barrel horses...My 3 finished barrel horses are on Acti-Flex 4000(I called myself researching this as the best option) and extra MSM.. The rest are just on MSM.. Which IV/IM shot could I give once a month for something a little extra? I've had people say Pentosan over Adequan, and that Aceytl-D-Glucosamine was the same as Legend?? I am by no means saying this is correct! I'm just trying to further my knowledge! Is there even a such thing as generic adequan or legend? I'm going to stick a poll down here, and maybe you guys can give me your opinion!!! Please no rude comments! Just trying to increase my knowledge!!

Have you called a Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy to see if they have a generic form of the Adequan and Legend available? I would start there if you are curious. We have a compounding pharmacy in town and I walk in a lot and ask questions. They are full of info. They work off prescriptions only tho. Maybe ask your vet for a recommendation on which pharmacy to call and go from there? He/She may have a reputable source to get info from or may be able to tell you the answers to your questions. Call your vet and see if you can come in to talk options. I get a lot more info out of the visit when I schedule a time to talk with my vet. I would trust a professional's opinion. But at least we can give you a direction and our favorite choices. Good luck!

I just had this conversation with my vet on Monday, particularly about Legend bc in 10 yrs, multiple horses/issues he's never prescribed it to me. I had to get a couple of horses injected and I do Pentosan monthly as well as glucosamine, msm, chondroitin sulfate and turmeric orally daily. My horses have mild issues and while they aren't arthritic yet we are trying to treat aggressively to stave it off. Legend and Pentosan are 2 different meds and do different things. Legend is a lubricant(like injection) administered iv and goes to all joints. Pentosan is a glucosamine product that helps repair and rebuild cartilage. HA which is legend cannot be absorbed orally so you're wasting $. If you don't have issues and are just looking for a maintenance program my vet reccommended Legend and an oral like cosequin ASU. The "idea" by giving Pentosan monthly is to try to stretch out the time in between injection by repairing the joint. My vet said Pentosan is better than adequan and cheaper. Either way my horses feel great!
