I am looking into the option of shipping a broodmare in foal and/or her late 2016 baby across the country, AZ to TN to be exact. I'm basically looking for the good/bad/ugly, if anyone has great success stories or if you pulled a traumatized unhealthy baby off the trailer and would never do it again. This particular colt has never been hauled prior. Thanks in advance!
Depends on the shipper. I used to sell a lot of weanlings and send them all over the country. Do your homework and find a reputable shipper with lots of references. My buyers always selected the shipper so I had no input on that. I have used Brazos Wilfong recently in the past and had very good experiences with his service.
I can't say I have experiance with shipping that young, but we've used Diamond Spur Transport and MJK Horse Transport and both are amazing and I would highly reccomend. We're in WI and had someone in Hawaii who wanted our weanling which meant the long haul, plus putting him on a boat and quarantine so unfortunately we passed as we didn't want to put him through that

I've hauled many weanlings... from OK to San Diego. I put them in 2 slant stalls and opened up the divider. Offered bermuda hay in front of them. When I layed over at night, hung water buckets and opened up all dividers. DID NOT UNLOAD. They were not even halter broke at the time.
