I have a nice arena, nice facility, and board horses..
My ground is dirt/ caliche..Not consistently good.
It clods up hard when dry, and gets slick when wet.
I'm asking for ideas to try and improve the ground here, without breaking my pocketbook.
I use a disc, and drag 2 -7' pipe behind my poor little Mitsubishi 24h tractor..
Any ideas?
Edited to add... I live in SW NM.

Shop until you drop for good sand!! Then set up a good watering system. Sand is what will really make the difference for you tho! You've got to get your aggregate size up. Caliche is the pits!

Ditto sand. I asked a sand supplier what he thought it would take to adequately foot an average arena size like 250x300...he said 600 tons for 2" deep or 900 for 3" deep.....not sure if that's even accurate but gives you somewhere to start.
