| The hubs and I are looking at starting to build a house within the next couple of years. One style we like is the Texas limestone. We live in West Louisiana not far from the Texas State line. Is this stuff any more or less expensive than other materials? I know I will have to have it brought to our place because not many people in my area use it. Any other pros or cons?
I also like the idea of a white simple farm house. I am thinking this would probably be less to build since siding is usually cheaper than stone or brick...We are budget concious.
Any tips regarding any of the above or house building in general are welcomed :)

Location: Not Where I Want to Be | depending on how far south, and how humid your weather is.
be prepared for it to turn green or anything that splashes on it to stain to high holy hell

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | The bottom part like maybe 2 feet of the limestone around here turns a ugly rust color are a softer tone of red when the soil splashes on it when we get rain over the years, not very pretty..The lighter the limestone the worst it looks..

Location: East Texas | I only live about 15 miles for LA so the weather is about the same. We have the light colored stone as accent on our house. I will try to find a pic or take one to show you what they are talking about, but it is not too bad. There are ways to lessen the effect (gutters, flowerbeds, grass, etc.) |

We did build a few years ago. It is brick with the Austin stone around the windows and corners. As a general rules stone is the most expensive, brick in the middle, and siding being the cheapest. |
