Location: Saskatchewan | I'm thinking about kicking my older RS custom to the curb and ordering a new-style corriente, but I hear you can't return them and that they only have ONE tree size?????
I tried looking on the website and they don't give the width of the bars or anything.
So, does anyone know what they measure? And what kind of horses they fit?
My horse has pretty big shoulders, but has sprouted some withers (used to be just a barrel). I believe a 6 3/4 gullet fits her most of the time, but wider would be okay. |

| I have been interested in these saddles as well. Actually a horse I tried out was big and stout and my wide Pozzi rolled on him and the owner used a corriente saddle she said it fit perfectly. I wish I would have rode in hers. Does anyone know how they ride? I would love to hear opinions before buying one. |

Me too!
I'm really interested in the in-seat rig.
If they fit wide horses, I'm sure my mares would be just fine. Its just my main gal has a wide shoulder and a fairly flat back, everything gets a little more normal when she slicks out. |

Location: Missouri | Jillian's Corriente is built on an association tree. It is great..fits her huge high withered rockstar and the 5 year old mare. She's desperately in need of a weight loss and work out program..wide backed, moderate withers. Totally different build.
She loves it, I love it, and would love to order one for myself. Hers is five years old and certainly not been babied. I should add hers is a Roper, not a barrel saddle. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I'm not sure how, but they really do seem to fit a wide variety of horses. My friend has a big, 16.2 hand gelding, built like a brick house. Almost looks part draft. Wide guy with low withers. It fits him great. She's also used it on her high withered, narrower built gelding without issue, just uses a different pad.
I've ridden in mine on my 14.2 hand, wide shouldered, low withered mare. Also used it on my 16 hand, flat backed mare with same results. I love how this saddle fits my horses.
I love how I ride in it personally. The stirrups are hung forward more than my billy cook. I had a hard time sitting for a turn because my legs would get behind me. The corriente has a deep seat, so I can sit and feel secure in a turn. But I can easily get up and out of it to hustle. I would personally recommend one. |

Location: MO | All of the above. I absolutley love mine and they have fit basically anything I have put them on. Rides awesome. I am actually thinking of selling my billy cook and buying a new Corriente at the end of the season this year. My boyfriend is an avid billy cook (ok) saddle guy. He won a corriente and has been riding in it now for about 2 weeks. He is really imnpressed with it. |

| Sounds like everyone is liking the newer Corriente saddles. I have a trophy saddle from 2003 that I've never used, but thinking maybe I should. How do the older ones fit?? |

I wish there was some sort of dealer close to me where I could at least put my hands on one before buying! |

Location: frozen tundra of pa | ?We have 4 corriente saddles in the barn. My wife has a caldwell but her everyday saddle is the corriente because its lighter for her to put on her horse since she has to do it one handed. We have had Zero issues with the saddles cant beat them for the price or the service. |

Also does anyone have a cutting saddle by them? I was thinking about getting a cutting saddle because they are like 3/4" taller horn and i like tall horns, and i like the double skirt look. but wondered about how they fit, if any different. |

Location: Oklahoma | I've been talking to them about a ranch cutter. According to the lady that emailed me, they're getting about 150 emails a day and it's taking them a while to respond (took them 5 days for me). I also asked about reversing the blevins buckles and adding an inlaid seat with hide I provided and was told you have to take their saddles the way they are. They won't make little changes. That for me isn't a custom saddle as they are advertising. I'm a little disappointed with them. |

I spoke with Tammy. I asked about supplying my own hide to match my tack set in the size they need and was told I had to choose either imitation elephant or suede. They do not offer anything else. They will not add an additional breast collar D-ring like my triple creek had. They will not reverse the blevins buckles so you don't have all that extra length. Also cannot change tooling combinations. I was told basically what you see is what you get. |

| As for the customization, I think it depends on what you want. I am going to be ordering my daughter a hard seat rough out barrel saddle with a 12 inch seat. It's going to cost me more than the regular youth saddles but they said they would do it.
The tree in the new Corriente is no different than the old, so I was told by the company. The only difference is aesthetics. If you do not like the fit of the old saddles you wont like these.

| We just bought a 10" for my daughter. It fits her gelding ok, we only had it on him for about 10 minutes.
We also just got an association ranch saddle. We have only used it on one horse so far and it fits her. She's a little narrower built. |

Location: North Dakota | All the barrel saddles have a 7" gullet with 90 degree angle. I have won two of them and for the money they are a really nice saddle. One sits in the house on a stand and the other gets used almost daily. There are brands out there charging $3k for their saddles that I don't think are any better quality than a $1k Corriente. I do wish they offered a different tree though. I personally don't have any horses that fit a FQHB well. It seems to fit everything decently with a change of pad but nothing perfectly. I prefer how my Coats fits and I just ordered a Roo. But I am thinking about ordering my husband a Corriente ranch cutter for our anniversary. They offer different trees for the cutters with a narrower gullet. Not sure on the bars though. |

what are they like to ride in? I have a 4 year old that NOTHING I have fits. I throw on my grandkids Corriente and waaalaaa....I have a good fit. I'm thinking about ordering one for her just to ride in until she matures and I can think about investing more. |

I am pleasantly surprised how comfortable my Corriente trophy saddle is. Not too built up on the ground seat. I'm very picky on how a saddle feels. All my other saddles are Coats. |

Location: Saskatchewan | Okay, so those of you who have them, have the saddles fit horses like this:
She's a big horse, with big shoulders and barely has any withers until she is fully in running shape and on a "starvation" diet (not actually starving but she thinks she is).
I know its really hard to tell from pictures, but every little tidbit of information helps!
You can see how my current saddle fits her (width wise) here, as you can see I have to use a pretty thin pad...
My rope saddle has a bit of a "flatter" angle to the bars and as you can see it fits over her fat shoulders nice, I have to use it until she gets in shape enough for my barrel saddle to fit

| The only horses that it doesn't set on real great are the ones with a big hollowed out area behind a strong wither. The saddle seems too wide and sinks into the pocket and pops up in the back end. I've been using mine on a stout 3 yr old with a flatter back with not much wither. Sets on him perfectly. |

Location: North Dakota | I agree. I like the way my trophy saddles ride. They are both 15" seats though and I normally ride in a 14" but they have a padded roughout seat so I stick well and the size doesn't bother me much (plus I like the extra rooom in the winter for all my layers ). I am not a fan of any Double J, Crown C, etc. I have ridden in so I can be a bit picky about how one rides. The Corriente definitely isn't my favorite but nothing about the ride bothers me. My feet stay in position, I am able to sit down for a turn and get up over when I have to. I think for the money they are an excellent saddle. If they fit your horse then I say go ahead and buy one! |

Hoping to get some insight... I now own two Corriente saddles, my first is a roping saddle which i love and it fits my mare well, i haven't had any noticeable issues with it.
BUT.
in august i received my barrel saddle from them, i believe the newer style like you all are saying, and i'm having some fitment issues. DRY SPOTS!!!
i messaged Corriente on facebook just to see what they use for size and they replied their saddles are 7" with FQHB.
i love this saddle (it was a birthday present) and my last resort is to get a different saddle. i just picked up some shims yesterday that i am going to try out. has any one else had some solutions to the dry spots?
She is about 14.2HH, not much for withers. built a lot like the gals original post here.
i have posted my own thread with some photos (more coming) looking for some advice, thanks! |
