| I have just one for now. In a year or so I will get another but I have not been riding for a few years and this horse is complicated enough right now. Once we both get legged up and comfortable I will get another prospect. I bounced back and forth on having her bred but I think I would be better off getting a nice yearling next year and maybe offer my mare up to someone would like a foal out of her. |

Location: Northwest | I did have just one about 4 years ago. Ever since then I've been up and down between 2 and 3. Right now I'm at 3 and wanting to be at 2. One sounds fantastic though; easier to take care of, quicker to ride, less money spent. The thing that scares me is what if that horse got hurt and I didn't have a backup. |

Location: MN | Me! I went from riding about 17 head to just ONE when I moved about 3 years ago across the country. Took the one I had the most faith in and he's never let me down! I do really, and I mean REALLY miss my young ones though. My one now, you just send in and he runs the same pattern every time and it's just a matter of keeping him in shape during the week. I miss the challenge the young ones gave me. Hopefully within the next couple of years I'll have a few more again but for now, one it plenty for my situation. It is very hard somedays when I do see that one that I'd love to have in the pasture though!!! Struggle is real.

| I have had only one for most of my life. I rode multiple horses when I was younger for friends and the trainer I worked for but never owned more than one myself until recently. I liked having the one when he was young and I needed to focus on him but now that he is battling some soundness issues, I like having another to putz with. |

| I just have one and I've always only had one an my old retired horse as a pasture pet. I would LOVE to have more but I can't afford it right now. Actually a few weeks ago sold the one barrel horse I had and I'm in the market for another. That's what is not great about it, if you don't get along with them or they're injured---that's it.
BUT! It is easier on the pocket book! |

| I like finding those Backyard types that aren't " Supposed" to be barrel horses that you can pick up for a reasonable price and train yourself. Thats kind of the market I am looking at now, not spending 10,15,20k on a prospect. lol |

I have my mare whom I rope on and my gelding whom I would run barrels on but he's been on and off for about two years now. Once I get him up and going again I may buy another to season while I'm running him. A back up is always a good plan. Lots of work but worth it.
Wish I had another to run on tho. I'm sure I'm rusty by now LOL |

I do want to get something young coming up behind her in case something did happen to her. It is very nice to only have 1. I have had 3 at once and that was hard on me financially, so when I had two it was better. Now with one it's even better. |

No...I went from 4 to just 2. So now you might see me at a race again. LOL I would like to go down to just one, but hubby needs something to rope on and the baby needs something steady to ride.

Location: Illinois | I have 3 horses, but only one can be ridden. One is a retired pasture pet and the other isn't big/old enough to get on yet. I don't mess with those two much, mostly just check to make sure they're on 4 legs and breathing. I've only ever had one horse of my own running, so I'm used to hauling just one. Last year I hauled a friend's horse that I was training & taking to exhibition. By the end of the season I was entering him and after the first time I had to warm up & run 2 horses in a class of 30, I had a newfound respect for anyone who hauls multiple horses. I had to start running mine in the open and hers in any adult/novice type class that was available. Normally I run mine in adult and open, but with so few in adult sometimes I didn't have time. Hers needs a lot of loping down before he's mentally ready. I'll be hauling both a lot at the start of this year too, and I enjoy running the extra as he's just easy cruising and can hold his own with my horse already. I'll be happy to go back to just one for awhile before I start hauling the young one next year & after that. |

| Sometimes I wish I had only one. I have 5 and my daughter has 2. I have 3 riding geldings. One finished, one ready to exhibition and the other not to far behind. I have a crippled mare I just temporarily rehomed to be a buddy to geriatric gelding. Last but not least, is a yearling filly that was a gift from my boss. He dispersed his race horses(not by choice) and she was out of my favorite mare I owned/rode for awhile after her track career anyway he bought her back and gave her to me. After taking on the projects for years I'm so excited to have a blank slate to mold all my own instead of cleaningu p someone elses mess.
I haven't had a vacation in 5 years and Im always "broke" but I'm incredibly happy and fit from all the work ;) |

It's also really nice to have the two because my mare has been off for the last 9 months or so so this little black horse has been a real sanity saver. The expenses are double of course but I do feel like its worth it. |

Now I'm boarding closer to Great Falls, so now I got another, but he didn't work out (long story) and I thought I'd go back to one. It took me about 6 months realize I needed another. So now I have two, with a possible 3rd on the way (my main mare may or may not be pregnant, not sure yet, and yet another long story). So long story short, I did, but I'm happy to have 2. :) |

| My fiance and I only had one horse each when we moved in together. We left our other stalls open for training horses. That number has quickly grown and now all of our stalls are full of our own horses (8).. not sure how that happened. Only having one horse was excellent on my pocketbook, but not so much if something happened and then not having any back up was no good. I do enjoy playing with colts, and not putting all my time into other peoples horses and having nothing to show for it at the end of the day. Its a lot of work, but if I dont want to ride one day, I dont have to.. When we sell one, I quickly find something else I want.. its a never ending cycle |

I told my husband and everyone else that I was only going to have one horse for a while because it was so much cheaper. Yeah...that lasted about 3 months. I'm back up to 2 and honestly I like it that way. 1 was much easier for sure, but I enjoy having 2. |

I have an older paint mare, who is my son's horse. And, then, the grulla roan mare who isn't broke yet. I enjoy having something to fool around with. But, I miss having something to run. She'll get there, slowly buy surely. She's a nice mare, so I like being able to sink a lot of my time into her. The paint mare is a saint... can leave her standing fo 6 months and she is the same horse every time. |

One horse works for me right now, he is still young and I have been doing a lot of riding, exhibitions, exposure etc. on him and I know if I had a more broke horse, I probably wouldn't have gotten as far as I have with this one!
Eventually I will probably get a second, but right now just having one works for me! |
