| I ride in a 16 inch seat. Most people ride in a seat that I too small. A snug seat is not what holds you in and if you have a seat that is too small, you cannot get your feet in front of you and your butt in the back of the saddle. My rump is not small but a lady at Josey's that made me look like a small child was buying a 14 inch seat???!!!!!! I offered to let her try my saddle but she was sure we had the correct size. Those saddles are not cheap and I would say swallow your pride and try to improve your riding and comfort.
Notice there are never any 16inch saddles for sale. Always lots of 13 and 14. I might add that I am not particularly fat just not model thin. My trainer is really thin and she rides in a 14 inch seat. That is me in my avatar.

| I ride in a 16. Why?? Because I don't want to look like 10lbs of taters in a 5lb sack. |

| I have a 14 and a 14.5 in the same saddle model, I don't notice much difference there but I've ridden the same model in a 15" and it felt huge. Our rope saddles are 15" and I ride that fine at 165lbs and my fiancé rides it fine as well at 250lbs - totally personal preference.
I will say after having a 14.5" Pozzi, I want to try one before I buy one. I'm pretty sure I could have gone all the way to 13.5 in that one, the 14.5" felt huge and I know Pozzi's are known for that. |

| Depends on the saddle, but I like to have some room. 15"-16" depending. |

| Right now I am in a 14” because the saddle fit my horse. I no longer have the horse I bought it for so looking for a 12”-13” that will fit my horses and me.

Location: California | 15-16". I've never ridden in anything smaller. I am 5'4 and not super thin, just average. The only thing I would add to that, is I like how a 15-16" saddle fits my butt (which is not huge BTW lol), but I ALWAYS have my stirrups on the last darn hole. I started as an english/jumper; so I tend to like shorter stirrups. |

Location: Montana | Very interesting answers! I am 5'6" and 130 lbs...I'm not huge nor am I tiny. I've ridden in a 15", and it is too big for me, so I ride in a 14" now and it is just about right. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | I'm 5'8" and around 140lbs...thick thighed and short legged too boot for my height. My older Carl Ammerman has a relatively flat style seat and allows me to get into pretty much any position I want to, I can sit up and ride a forward seat on it or tuck my rear a little and get a cutters slump in the cutting pen in it. Its a 15 inch seat. My Crates saddle has much more shape to the seat and puts you a bit more on your pockets, feet in front a bit. It is a 14.5. Like I said, I'm thick thighed, genetics and gymnastics and these babies need room! |

| Normally id ride in a 14.5 in everything BUT i just bought a new Lynn mckenzie and all my friends said it even looks to big (just looking at it on a horse with no one sitting in it) but once i actually sit in it, it fits perfect! i still have a little room but not to much. its my fav! |

Location: cincinnati, oh | I ride in a 14" on my Martha Josey but a 14.5 typically in everything else. I tried a 14.5 in a Josey once and I felt like I was swimming. I had a Circle Y Proven in a 15" that I bought because it was a good deal but sold it because it always felt too big and like I couldn't find the "sweet spot" and get up and out of it when I needed to. I have tried a 14 and 14.5 in a Corriente and felt comfortable in both. I read an article once by Doug McRea about seat size and he said you should have 1" between your thigh and the pommel in a properly fitted saddle. |

| I am 5'8 and normally about 150# and ride in a 15" saddle that's treed ad its perfect! I did recently buy a treeless and I am in a 14.5 in that.. I didnt try a 15.5.. but feel like my 14.5 fits "ok" wish i had the a tiny tiny bit more room, but the pommel is higher on the treeless, and a little more straight up and down than im use to.. so I think once i get use to it and the saddle broke in, it will be perfect:) |

I want to be able to get up and outta my saddle. Don't want to be trapped.
5'6 125lbs I can fit in a 13.5 but I don't see how people ride in those without being thrown forward in the turns

I think a lot also depends on your height and leg/femur length. I'm 5" with short legs and riding in a 14" makes me feel like I'm a little kid sitting in too big of a chair. The seat/stirrup ratio is off and I can't ever get it to feel right. A 13" feels much better and a 12" feels like home lol :) |

Location: Montana | I tried a 15" The Proven and I was swimming in that saddle, went down to a 14" Courts and felt a whole lot more secure, but I do get thrown forward a little (it could be the horse, she is really ratey). Now I'm looking for another saddle for another horse...not sure what seat size I should be. Interesting answers...most people ride a lot larger saddle than I would have though.

Location: North Dakota -> Colorado | I ride in a 13.5" Three Forks Merill barrel Saddle. I absolutely love it. They had a little size chart based on height and weight. I was originally going to get a 14" but after talking to them on the phone, I decided on a 13.5". I can still get my feet in front of and behind me if I need to. One thing, and I'm not sure if it is me or the saddle, but it feels like my left leg gets pushed forward no matter what direction we are going, however it is definitely more noticable to the right |
