| I have a mare that I noticed early this morning laying down, which is rather unusual for her at that time. I checked her out when I fed and everything seemed normal. Throughout the day I kept an eye on her while I worked and she was laying down a lot and wasn't social with the other horses. I noticed 2x when she was standing she was sort of parked out. I pulled her out and checked her temp, gums, and pulse, and they were all good. She walked out fine and acted normal. Has good gut sounds. I saw her poop 2x while I was working other horses. Feet were normal and not hot. When feeding tonight she was last, she is usually first, but seemed to eat ok while I watched. I can see them now at the hay line I put out and she's laying down again. :-/ she did have a little runny nose so not sure if she's got a cold? Something is definitely off but not sure what?? |

Where do you live? Has the weather been up and down like ours lately?
Friday was 58*, yesterday was 40* and today was 45ish so nothing too drastic. She's in a big pasture with a large water tank so I can't really monitor her drinking/pooping so I'll probably put her in a run when I go to check on her. |

With the parking out, not being social and the last one up to eat, laying down more then normal, yep she sound's like shes got a mild colic but it can really go south fast, so be on high alert with her.. Hugs  you got a sleepless night tonight sounds like.. |

Location: CTX | Sure sounds like she's trying to colic, if you can put her in a smaller pen it would be easier to keep an eye on her... Maybe give her a little bit of banamine.

| Be cautious of pneumonia. We had a friend who just had a mare contract pneumonia with no clinical signs (fevere, etc.). Thought it was a colic case, but was pneumonia. |

Location: Florida.. | give her some banamine .. sounds like shes colicy .. or her ovaries hurt..they can still poop with a impaction.. it is the poop past it... so id be careful..id have a vet look at her if shes not well tomorrow. |

If you have a tube of electrolytes I'd give her some to encourage drinking also.
My mare collic'd 2 wks ago.
Weather change east Texas.
Vet had me add 1 cup rice bran to her feed daily n a little salt.

| I have mare that will stand camped out and acts colicky. Both times vets decided the colic was really hind gut ulcers. We treated her for colic but she continued to stand camped out and in in pain despite being treated for colic. After feeding her Cur Ost Stomach and the Adapt she recovered and is fine now. One of the reasons they decided it might be ulcers was her dark poop and muscle spasms in her flank and backend. |

I turned her back out in the pasture and she trotted off to find the others. Seems completely normal other than standing funny.. |

| When our stud colt was standing parked out even under saddle - he had hind gut ulcers. He would lie down lots.

| She seems to be doing ok yesterday. Not sure if she had an upset stomach or possibly ulcers, even tho she's had the winter off and is out on pasture. Maybe she got wind of my plans to start boot camp and played me :) Thank you all for your help and concern! |
