Sorry about that! We don't ever record anything, and so I didn't even think about spoiling it for anyone. I really am sorry. |

| What fun watching! The whole rodeo! Can anyone give us the scoop on Hailey? Age? Horse? Congrats to her! Even without Louie Lisa did great! She's such a hand on any horse she rides. |

| NipntuckLR - 2017-02-19 8:15 PM What is the breeding on her horse, is it a Dinero daughter? Very nice, it was fun to watch. They bought her as a 2 year old from the Texas Best Sale. They used her on the ranch before putting her on barrels. I think she is 5 or 6. What an exciting race. Edited to add they bought her for 11K, what a find!
How about that beautiful big and stout buckskin Rosa that Lisa rode, beautiful mare.

Location: Sweet Home Alabama | We went and watched this year. We sat behind the holding pen and that's where they were all warming up. I slapped my mom's arm as they all came out like "Mom, there's Sherry and Arson!! Omg, there's Latte. Look how good Fallon looks!" It was so cool!! Arson came in loping and Sherry looked like it took all her strength to hold him back. My mom said he looked like a fun ride. Lol I pretty much tuned calf roping out and watched all the barrel racers warming up. Cassidy Dennison sat down in the section beside us. She is a tiny girl; but they all look bigger on TV. Anyway, it was awesome! Wish I could have met them and their horses. The stranger cowboy next to me probably thought I was a nut hollering and clapping for them all.
And I'm so happy a barrel racer finally got a chunk of the million. |

| Great race!
Annoyed by the announcers making it sound like Sheri was just swinging a leg over Arson for the first time Sunday as a "borrowed horse". Totally get that he is borrowed, but it's not like this was their first rodeo...
Missed Louie but that Rosa mare looks to be filling in nicely! Louie is my fiancé's favorite barrel horse (which is saying something since he's a roper who hadn't watched a full barrel race until he met me), hoping he makes a complete recovery and we see him again - Lisa said on Facebook hopefully by July.
I was sad to see Chris Martin get wide on the 3rd, he had a smoking run set up.
The team roping and tie down roping was also super exciting! Smoking times. I feel for Ty Harris getting bumped out a second year in a row but I have a hunch when he turns 18 we'll see a LOT more of him, freaky fast hands. |

| Thrilled for Hailey to have won. Pretty amazing for a qualifier to win, especially in the barrels because most of the horses that are capable are in the hands of the industries elite. I also was SUPER STOKED for Cody "hot sauce" DeMoss!! I have watched that guy come in second in the world by very small margins. He and Heith are local boys and I just couldn't be happier for him. |

Not saying Hailey is in the elite crowd, but dropping 11k on a 2 year old is not something your average girl can do...! At any rate, she seems like a neat young lady! Great composure! |

I agree with you, that is a sizeable investment. However that could be considered quite affordable in comparison to what others have paid for horses of that caliber. Especially if they purchased them as finished horses later in life, not as a two year old. She got a deal if you ask me. She seems like an awesome young lady!

Cody DeMoss is one of my all time favorites; so happy he won! I just shake my head at everyone bashing him for what he said about the gold buckle.... if anyone has followed him it seems pretty clear that anytime he is put on the spot/on tv, that he gets a bit tongue tied. I think his comment just came out a little differently than he meant it. |

My husband and I had an argument about this. I understand exactly what he said about the Gold Buckle. He is a competitor and that gold buckle says you were the best for the year, not just one rodeo. I am sure he was very proud of winning the American, but it ain't the NFR.

I understand what he "meant." But I still think it is not a time or place to express that. It came off ungrateful to me. This rodeo has offered him a wonderful opportunity and he should thank them and recognize that. I also understand that people get nervous and say things at the wrong time/place but even at the press release, I was not impressed with him. Just my observation and feeling on it.
Did he sit out last year or something which is why he came in as a qualifier?
I will say, Hailey is the only true qualifier IMO which makes this extra special. |

Yes and I think this year they brought the top 10 and some invitees. I believe the announcers said he had to go through the qualifiers. |

I agree.....it was just plain RUDE to be standing there getting a check from a man for 100K and tell him you would trade it for a Gold Buckle......I would have jerked that check out of his hands and told him that I would mail him a buckle....and don't give me this he's shy......he has never been shy with sarcastic remarks his whole career.....here's a picture of him when they were lining up at the end....nice "attitude" .... |

How do you figure she was the only "true" qualifier?
Since she is the only one who wasn't at the NFR - IMO she is the only true "qualifier."
I agree with you on that point.
I agree, too. Isn't the purpose of the American to allow the "little guys" a chance to compete against the big dogs. Hailey is what I would consider an underdog. I don't know her, but I am guessing she doesn't make a living rodeoing or hauling to 80+ rodeos a year. Cody DeMoss has proven talent - when I look at him as a "qualifier," I don't consider him an underdog. |

Ok?
I bet the RFD folks wish your opinion counted for the pay out.
Again 1D - MY OPINION...
Sage Kimzey was #1 in 2016 w/$311,451.27 in earnings.
Cody DeMoss was #12 in 2016 w/$138,768.01 in earnings.
Both were at the NFR in 2016.
Hailey was #105 in WPRA w/$11,710.26 in earnings.
In my opinion, the qualifiers are folks who don't necessarily devote their whole lives to rodeo for whatever reason. Time, resources, finances, etc. The American is unique because it gives them an opportunity to run against the best and for big money. Kimzey and DeMoss compete against this field regularly. Just different level of excitement to me.
Doesn't mean I expect RFDTV to care what I think. |
