Location: CA | Looking to buy a stud to cross on running and cowbred mares. These are the three that I have narrowed it down to. A first down dash son, a docs oak son, and a Strawfly special son. Would love everyone's input!

What kind of horses are you wanting to breed as two of your studs are strongly running bred and the other foundation? It leaves me wondering about the type you want to produce.
Are you currently just selecting these are pedigree or price alone? What made you narrow your list to these 3? |

Location: CA | I normally run either straight cowbred horses, cow n run cross every once in awhile a running bred horse will fit me. I like all three of these guys pedigrees and all three are in my price range.
I am wanting the foals for barrel prospects. |

Agree. I am scratching my head at this as well....
Also, not juding but I am genuinely curious, why are you purchasing a stud for "a few mares" when it is more cost effecient to buy two or three breedings? Most stud owners will give multiple mare discounts...  |

Location: Mendenhall, Ms | I like the first one - Dashing First. I have to assume all stallions have correct comformation. I like my stallion to be all running bred. If you have mares that are cowbred that will give you a running/ cow cross offspring. I also like that he is a younger stallion and if some of his offspring did perform well you might have an opportunity to market him. I like his maternal side better also. |

He is the one I am leaning towards also, mostly because of his age :) |

No one was questioning whether you should buy a stud. I was simply asking why you would want to buy a stud instead of just buy a breeding since most stud owners offer multiple mare discounts. I was genuinely curious. Sorry for asking an honest question.
Next time, instead of asking for input maybe you could ask for input on the stud specifically or on the pedigree specifically or on the conformation of each stud specifically instead of just asking for input.
Because you simply ask for input and nothing specific here is mine:
I found nothing in the three that would make their get appealing to me as a buyer. I found one photo of one stud and was not impressed with conformtion on said stud. (Mi Valentino) I found no proof of any accomplishments through Google or AQHA of either three of the studs accomplishments or the offsprings accomplishments. I see that the stud Mi Valentino stated they have a few winners on the ground but I found no proof of accomplishments through organizations or clubs so as far as that goes someones kid couldv'e won the leadline in 4H and made the offspring a "Champion". So to me, all three are technically unproven.
If it were me, I would spend the money on breeding to studs that were proven. But if you want me to state my input on which stud to pick of the three I would pass on all three. If you are asking for input wanting me to pick one of the three I would pick Mi Valentino. Why? Because that's the only one google would pull up for me... |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Both running studs are bred nice. I always considered Strawfly Special more of a broodmare sire so a son wouldn't interest me. The FDD stud is owned by questionable circumstances. Got into one of those deals in the past. His price alone would scare me off. Love how he is bred though. The cutting bred one has a really nice set of papers. I am a race fan myself, but having ridden a lot of cowbred horses, I LOVE Docs Oak and Boon Bar is a stellar broodmare sire. |

Sorry I didn't realize that my meaning of asking for input would be interpreted so broadly. I was asking for input on the pedigrees of the studs. I realize that none of the studs are proven. I simply was curious what people's opinions were on making barrel horses out of Strawfly special, docs oak, and first down dash lines. As in I personally have a Strawfly special and a docs oak. The Strawfly special is temperament wise one of the best geldings I've ever owned he is also big yet just as quick as most cowbred horses. My docs oak mare is crazy hot super quick but doesn't have the speed that a running bred horse would have. Those where things I was looking for when asking for input. |

Location: Beggs, OK | As a cowhorse fan and lover of Docs Stylish Oak horses... The Docs Oak stud wouldn't interest me as I like that blood on the bottom side of a pedigree....and he's 17 years old. |
