So im trying out this mare thats a 1D horse (yes im used to 1D horses haha) my mare rn is 2D and my gelding is 1/2D so im just seeing what people do when they try them out, like running wise, how fast, what kind of checklist, those kind of things.

When we took our girls to try a horse they rode the horse at owner's house, cruised the pattern, looked at confirmation, any obvious soundness issues etc.   If we wanted to proceed and both parties were comfortable, we entered somewhere and they would run all out.  We thoroughly researched horse and owner before trying.

Some people from out west swapped horses with some folks from Florida. They met in Marshall TX. The girl from Florida ran in a barrel race and whooped up on everybody around here. We have tough competition here so it was a good test of what the horse could do. Nice horse

I Google for current stats. I want to know how the horse placed, at what pens, against what level of competition. I search YouTube too.

If results justify the price tag, I setup a time to ride the horse at the sellers arena. I cruise through a couple times, getting tips and advice on how they run the horse. If we click I ask if they'll haul it to a jackpot/rodeo so I can make a run.

If I'm satisfied with the run I schedule a vet check.
