| My good open mare ( have had her 8 months now) is a former cutter and Reiner. Fancy fancy broke. She is of course super push style. She is finished and I haven't had to do any tuning since I've owned her. I run her in a short shank argentine snaffle. Over the months she has gotten super super ratey !!! Like you need to push her by or she is turning anyway. lol I can fix the setting for a turn to early but I'm looking for a bit that might free her up. She is so broke that as soon as you sit or pick up the rein, she turns. lol I'm thinking a Jim Warner hack??? Maybe a little S? Suggestions ? Thanks. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Have you tried just taking your chin strap off? Nevermind. I was thinking Argentine snaffle had a shank, but just googled it. Maybe a different mouthpiece? That jointed snaffle can hit the roof of their mouth. I run my ex-Reiner in a freter butterfly with a Mullen mouth.

Location: Oklahoma | I would try something with a chain mouth and a lot of gag. That way the reaction time is slower. A hackamore would be a totally different feel for her wich may deaden the reation time as well.
On some horses I feel as they progess they need to lose a few of their extra buttons to be fast.
*Disclaimer* If she is turning off you body instead of your hand that is a whole other issue to fix. Those little quick suckers are a whole lot harder to ride. :) |

| I run my quick cutting bred gelding in a 2 piece CM44 bit after riding with Chris. Prior to riding with him, same issues you're describing and I had also tried a variety of bits. Revamping how I was working the pattern and giving cues made a much bigger difference than the bit. |

| Thanks everyone for the suggestions. A 5 bit by reinsman was also suggested. I do love my jr cow horse bits and have a chain mouth. Might try that. I agree on less buttons. She is a super finished 1/2d so she will work in anything. Just a couple little tune up areas to address. Thanks. |

Location: Texas!! | My daughter runs her cutting super ratey horse in a little S, but its a handmade one and the guy that made it is no longer in business, the other little S hack's just don't feel the same. One day she was riding him around in a rope halter and decided to take him through the poles, he worked so good, she never ran him in a bit again! That was 12 yrs ago. |

| I rode my old pleasure horse (exceptional but got sour) in a Reinsman 903 ring combo, rope nose hack. The rope acted like a hack but had a little more when needed. She was SUPER sensitive. Most of the time you hardly had to use the reins. |

Location: lone star state | I have a horse very similar to what you have described. I run him in a 2 piece, l and w A bit, with contoured twisted mouthpiece. Depending on how he feels during warm up is which ring I place my rein for run. I basically need it to stop him at the end of my run. He rides mostly off my seat. Also I don't ride it snug -it sits in his mouth. I do like heavy reins and snaps don't bother him, that's another thing you might consider.
There are some great classic equine videos by sherry Cervi and dena Kirkpatrick that are their favorite tack and WHY they like it. Very helpful :) |

| My first thought is to try her in an O-Ring snaffle.
I'm not really a hack person, but have always been interested in this one. CHS makes great stuff.

I too was thinking a hackmore..perhaps a little S? It might give her a different feel and not be so responsive and allow her to me more attentive to your body, rather than what's in her mouth. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Pretty sure I own a Wonder bit in every mouthpiece they make LOL I love them. I also have multiple bit made by JD Morrow in Weatherford, TX. He makes bits for Martha and the Late/Great Ed Wright's bit line. His phone number is posted on his website. I call him all the time for suggestions. If he doesn't know the answer it takes him one phone call to ask Martha to find out an answer. Between the two of them and JD's great customer service and craftsmanship I've never been steered wrong. Great prices too. |

If she truly doesn't need any help than maybe just a traditional sidepull? There is a true 1D, pro-rodeo winning mare up here that runs in one. |

Or maybe the Carl hack from L&W bits? It's more of a sidepull than hack but is a little more than a little S. |

Location: North Dakota | My Red is very very broke as well, and definately push style. I like to compete in reining too so he's "fancy broke" for that.
I used to run him in a Jr. Cowhorse (smooth mouth with dogbone) but it was like even that was "too much" because he kinda likes to be left alone. I switched him to a Little S Hack and I really like that. Keeps me out of his way and is super light. |
