Upon the advice of my performance vet we are going back to the old school tube worming, once a year. He uses a mixture of many of the name brand wormers and very hi dosage.

Be very diligent in removing bot eggs when grooming....

I fed AE Detox with diatomaceous earth in it (had a fecal to confirm)...I also am very vigilant about those pesky bot fly eggs.

I use Ivermectin. A lady that used to teach with me (biology) had her masters degree in Equine Parasitology. She said that the only two wormers that worm did not form a resistance to were ivermectin and Moxidectin. Both are in the same family but slightly different.

Tubing is good because of the volume of wormer used. You really do need to worm more often than once a year. The information that I have read does say that you do not need to worm but every 90 days. I adhere to this.

Why only once a year?

I plan on worming with a tube of ivermectin and then doing a 30 day treatment on a daily.

Slacy09 I will pm you tonite. It's radical and used under veterinary supervision.
1D how much money have your horses won? Mine have a proven history and are currently doing well and more than paying their way. I owe much of that success to my vet :)

I just had this discussion with my vet. They recommend doing fecals twice a year and deworming with equimax once a year because that one has praziquil in it and that does tapes. Tapes do not show up on a fecal so need to deworm for them yearly. The fecal shows the other worms. If your horse test low and is considered a low shedder than you would deworm 6 mos later with an ivermecterin. If your horse is a high shedder then you would deworm more often and use something like quest plus or whatever your vet recommends. We are doing fecals on all of our guys to get with this new program. The thought is that the horses and the worms are getting resistant to the dewormers. Quite intersting. Hope this helps..

Every single time I get a fecal count done, my horses don't have worms. I usually just worm once or twice a year.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record :) but I use Silver Lining Herbs Herbal Wormer. It actually works :) and parasites don't build up a resistance to i, and it'seasier on their kidneys and liver to not have to filter the worming chemicals. My horses look great on it

Every 2-4 months personally, depending on the horse's living conditions. Same as regular wormer. The 1 lb. bag has 6 10-day doses (6 treatments)

Horse physcic talked to the worms, well she tried to, they didn't answer so they must not be there

Yes, yes, that's what they say, but how do we know that worked?
I have a couple horses who seem to love cigars. I'm not going to claim they like cigars because they kill worms.
I'd love it if herbs worked as well as conventional de-worming pastes.
I'm not going to fall for the usual garbage......show me a double blind trial. It would be very inexpensive and very easy to prove.
If it shows herbs are at least close to the conventional treatments, then you have something worthwhile that I'll buy.
Otherwise, it's all hocus pocus.....rip offs.
