Just read on facebook that two people were trying to save cattle from the fires in the TX-OK Panhandle and lost their lives. Such a tragedy. Hope all of you are safe out there.

Sydney Wallace, left, and Cody Crockett died trying to save cattle and horses from Monday night’s wildfire, according to Gray County officials.

Three people are dead in Gray County and a new death has now been confirmed in Lipscomb County following Texas Panhandle wildfires that burned through the night.
Cody Crockett and Sydney Wallace in Gray County were confirmed dead by Sandi Martin, Gray County’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
Sloan Everett, a rancher, is the third Gray County fire victim, according to a family friend.
Cade Koch, 25, has been confirmed as a fire victim in Lipscomb County, his wife Sierra Koch told the Amarillo Globe-News. When the smoke cleared authorities found his abandoned car on Highway 305 and his body was not far from the auto, she said, about 5 miles north of the Hemphill County line.
Judge Richard Peet said the Gray County trio died while trying to save cattle, one who suffered smoke inhalation and two from burns.

The first of the three died at 10 p.m., according to Martin, while the two burn victims were airlifted to Amarillo and Lubbock but did not survive. One victim died while en route to a hospital.
Peet, who was working from the Gray County Office of Emergency Management, said the fires in the county were called under control at 4:15 a.m. Early estimates from county officials say more than 100,000 acres were burned. Gray County officials said more than a dozen different agencies were called to the area to assist in the fight.
No known structures were lost, and officials are working to confirm how much cattle may have been lost in the fire.
The fire started around 4 p.m. in southeast of Pampa, and shortly after residents in the area were advised to evacuate.
State fire marshals will be in Gray County today to investigate the deaths, and to determine what caused the wildfires to start.

Please include Southwest Kansas in your prayers. Fires are bad there as well. Little partial with so much family in that area.

My friends dad and brother are the ones that found the bodies of the young couple. They found his horse before they found him. His girlfriend was on a 4wheeler. Both were burned by the fire!

My family and the Crockett's have been friends for many years.  I've watched Cody grow up from a kid to the man he was now.  He was an awesome friend to those that knew him, a natural hand on a horse and with cattle and someone you'd hope that your daughters would grow up to find and marry.  I think all of us who knew them are just still in shock.

All I can say is when the fire started, the wind had been blowing pretty steadily around 20 mph from the southwest.  It had done that all day.  Right around the time that I think they were killed, it started blowing hard -- I mean like 40-50 mph straight out of the west.  I had gone outside from working at my office in the house to hook up my truck and horse trailer since we were in the path of it.  When the wind shifted, I almost couldn't open the door on my pickup to get out and I had to walk back to the house leaning into the wind like those reporters do in the hurricane coverage shots.  It only blasted like that for maybe 3-5 minutes but I believe it's a good chance that the same wind happened where they were at and it's why they got caught so quickly.

Cody had experience with these wildfires from close calls in the previous years and I don't see any of them going out towards the fire unless they thought that they could get the gates open in time and get out.  There was no warning that the winds would shift like that -- it had literally been blowing south-southwest all day and had stayed steady at 15-25 mph winds.  If you weren't outside at the time the west wind shifted like that, you wouldn't have known but it was a hard shift and a big gust of sustained wind.  We were actually probably lucky that many of the volunteer firefighters (because that's all we really have out here) were on the way driving to the fire at that time instead of right in it because I'm afraid that we would have had more casualties or people severly hurt.

Many prayers for all. We had a bad fire here in West Texas about 6 years ago. My husband is a volunteer fireman and he was out there for days and nights. It was awful! Many ranchers lost the majority of the herds and land.

At this time I don't think they have determined a cause of the fires here. With the way the wind has been blowing and gusting it easily could have been downed lines. A few weeks ago we had a bad ice storm where several poles and lines snapped, everything was repaired but those that didn't break could have ben weakened and then add in the relentless wind. The stories and pictures have been beyond heartbreaking. A few of the Panhandle girls are starting a Auction page that will run for 2 weeks, 100% of the proceeds will go to the ranchers  and victims families. I've attached the link , please take a look !https://www.facebook.com/groups/271044943319211/
