I'm sitting here, needing to pass the time until the vet calls me...

My good horse could use a few prayers. He's currently at Oklahoma State being treated for Clostridal Myositis. If you don't know what that is, most horse owners have seen the story/article on facebook about the bad, anaerobic infection that horses can get from being given Banamine in the muscle. They end up with the "cat claw" inscisions in their neck to drain and aerate the infection... It's extremely rare, but that's what we're dealing with. Only his is in his hip, and result of a puncture wound a week prior.
We are not even sure HOW he got the wound, but it is suspected that mares being in heat caused a fight and he was run into a tree branch. The wound is from the top down, and from back to front. He was started on Uniprim within an hour of it happening, had a tetnus shot within 12 hours, and did great for 6 days. On day 7 (Sunday morning) I noticed his back legs looking stocked up a bit. By evening he was swollen on all four legs all the way up, 2 of them being worse than the other 2. I was communicating with his vets on Sunday, gave him banamine and walked him, and took him in first thing Monday morning to the local equine clinic. He has been seeing internal medicine at OSU due to some metabolic/possibly auto immune small intestine issues (possibly why he got this infection in the first place), so we called them to let them know of the situation and to give them a heads up that I'd bring him down there if he continued to decline. They asked me to bring him IMMEDIATELY, so turned around and went and picked him up from the clinic and took him down there, arriving at 3pm. By 4:30 he was in surgery to place drains and get air to the infection areas--some of which were 5-6 inches deep in his muscles. There were tons of people coming into the room to observe, and I was told that most vets have never actually seen it outside of text books and lecture.

He is still there, and had a good day yesterday, though his legs are still extremely swollen. If he can get through the next day or so and continue to improve, he has great chances of making a full recovery. If not...I'm facing a very hard decision.

Oh no.   My neighbors horse had this years ago.

Prayers for a very fast and complete recovery.  This is a very serious issue.  So sorry.

So far, he's doing really well. No fevers, his appetite is improving and the swelling is slowly going down. His ultrasound looked good yesterday and the surgeons are very happy with what they are seeing. His internal med resident adores him and sent me pictures of him this morning getting loved on by her :) He's begging for cookies, so he must feel better, LOL.

He's still improving. The surgery team may take his drain out today, and if there is no signs of gas in his muscle than he might get to come home Saturday afternoon or Sunday.

Awwww, thank you guys so much for thinking of us.

I got to bring him home Saturday night, and he is doing ok. We are battling some leg edema--which completely freaked me out at first, since leg swelling was the first thing I noticed when he got sick. He's getting VERY grumpy about being a pin cushion--3 injections of antibiotics every day, one of which is large doses of Penicillian. It hurts, he's swollen and sore, and just grumpy about it, but he's eating, and bright eyed. But he's alive, and hopefully we'll get through the last 5 days of antibiotics, and he'll start liking me again.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that said prayers for my boy! He's doing great, and got to be turned out in the pasture for the first time today since his injury, 32 days ago. He was ecstatic, and I wanted to wrap him in bubble wrap watching him run around!
