Had horse get hung up in barbwire fence.Vet came and sewed up cut in pastern, Wrapped and said to unwrap and clean in 48 hours. She suggested putting honey on it if I felt I needed to put something on it.Also abrasions and small cuts on legs and face.Using scarlet oil on legs.Any suggestions what I can use on his face around his eye.

Our vets frequently recommend Medihoney products at the clinic I work at. It does work really well. I'm personally not a big fan of scarlet oil; I usually just use Neosporin (or generic equivalent) on any stitched lacerations. Have used Microcyn successfully as well. There is a silver ointment that also works really well for healing lacerations. For scrapes that just need to regrow hair, I use Corona. For any other wounds that can't be stitched & I want to avoid proud flesh, I use apple cider vinegar and black pepper, or Underwoods.

I second the Manuka honey. I had to get mine a whole Whole Foods store. My mare degloved her back leg. Only left the tendon and blood vessels. Most would have put her down. But we tried to save her and she made it. I used this to heal her wound. She has a scar bigger than my hand!

I agree!! I just healed up a pretty nasty cut on my horse's pastern using Vetricyn Hydrogel. I don't know what's in there, but boy did it take care of things quickly.

I found cleaning the wound and covering with raw egg whites smeared all over the wound makes for fast healing. Spray the leg with a mixture of green alchol applecider vinegar and epsom salt mixed to your pleasure to keep the swelling down. Raw honey can do the same.
