Please help with some drills to get it through a 13 year olds mind to push her horse past her point to start the turn. We've set cones beyond the barrel for her to focus on, she can NOT unglue her eyes from the barrels. The one time out of 10 when she actually looks past, her turns are flawless. She can also do it at 3/4 speed that will make your mouth water, but add speed and her eyes automatically looks at the barrel.

My daughter is 13 and she is the same way. What we found what seems to help is if we go into the arena before the run and we find something on the fence for her to look at. A banner or anything that may stand out. Even a piece of tape on the fence. Then before she runs I tell her "remember to ride to the "green banner" on the 2nd and the "roping chute" on the third. If you just say "don't look at the barrel" they will do exactly that. You have to replace that image with a better one.

What helped my daughter the most was when I told her to look between her horse's ears on the approach to the barrel and into the turn. It instantly made her sit straight up and her mare (who was very setty) was able to get past the barrel. I know that sounds so simple - but it works. Good luck!
