I have a friend whose horse kicks the side of the trailer when hauling more specifically when we are stopped but will do it going down the road now too. any suggestions?

Kick chains. Or I have seen people take a horse shoe and slide in over their leg letting it drop down to the hoof. Basically the same concept but a cheaper version.

I have one that kicks really really badly in the trailer. I have found that kick "bracelets" around her back ankles help, tying her really short in the trailer, opening up one of the petitions to give her more room if at all possible as well as hauling her with hay helps. I also will give her In the zone paste or if going somewhere the night before a race/rodeo I will ace her which helps I have noticed.

I'll second this method! That turd tore up some trailers while hauling but fingers crossed she is decent. Kick chains/bracelets, 1/2 tube of in the zone and lots of room. I hauled her 6 hours in the back cut of my stock trailer by herself and backwards with a full hay bag, chains and In the Zone. Held my breath most of the trip, got there and no new dents! haha Gonna try it again when I go get her in 2 weeks.

Little nylon dog collar (or some strap that fits around the fetlock) and clip a chain to it...I use one you would use for lunging or hanging buckets and let em at it! Once they start kicking themselves they stop, might take a few days.

This is dangerous and can cause injury.
I would tie the horse at home with kick chains first and load the horse at home. Wait a few monutes and make sure everything will be ok before hauling down the road with the chains.
I put a chain on mine and he didn't like the feeling so he kept trying to kick it off. He hurt hiumself and messed up the trailer pretty badly.
