Has anyone had a horse get strangles more than once? I always thought once they get it, they won't get it again. I've had one vet tell me it's not that uncommon and one tell me it's very uncommon.

I have a 21yr old that has had it 4 times!! None of them seemed worse or better than the other times he had it. My vet told me it's rare but yes some do contract it more than once. He is the only 1 I have had it happen to and he's always been and still is healthy.
I would recommend scoping his guttural pouches to be looking for chondroids or ins****ated (thickened) pus- could be a constant source and cause of reinfection.

^^ Ditto this ^^^ Usually reinfection is due to residual in the gutteral pouches.
Depends on your area and veterinarian- but they use a normal endoscope that you would evaluate a horses upper airway with, and just pass it into the guttural pouches. $90-150 would be be a good estimate to figure on.

Many years ago, when I still lived at my parents house, we had a colt that got it several times. We got a goat and have never had it again on the place.
