| I'm trying to put some weight on my horse. He looks good but could use another 50 pounds or so to be perfect. He's on 3 scoops of alfalfa cubes twice a day, Purina Equine Senior Active, a weight gain supplement, and free choice grass hay in a slow feed bag. He's been on this for about a week and I have seen a little improvement, but how long does it usually take to see noticeable gain in one?? I don't think I need to change anything yet but I'm not sure how long to give him until I try something else to put weight on. |

| I feel your pain! I just got a filly about 10 days ago, she's about 150-200 pounds underweight =( I have her on a really good diet now, and just want to see her fat and happy, like now! The other post is right though, you won't REALLY notice a different until about 30 days =/ The waiting game is the hardest! It helps though if you can notice a change in their attitude =] My filly is already acting more playful and babylike, instead of an old man haha. If you can see little changes on your horse, that'll at least let you know that you're on the right track =) |

Location: 31 lengths farms | My little mare with kidney stones has always run to the light side. Her appetite is directly linked to how much work she is getting so when she was off the last few months before her surgery for the bladder stone we had a hard time keeping her eating a sufficient amount to keep good weight on her. Then last year she had a couple bouts with a bladder infection. Again she has a diet she is kind of restricted to because of the kidney. After doing some looking around I put her on Equisure because of the infections and her having to be on antibiotics 2x in a short period of time. With no other dietary changes, she gained @60 lbs in 3 weeks or so and the other blessing, she has not had another bladder infection since starting her on it. |

That's the thing...after I gave him free choice grass hay he started throwing a bunch of his cubes on the ground and not finishing all of them. lol So I backed off his cubes to about 2 1/2 scoops each feeding |

Keeping weight on them when their laid up or sick is harder than you'd think! lol Mine was off for almost a year and dropped some weight but the vet said not too worry about it since it will actually be better for his injury while healing (it was soft tissue). Now that he's back and ready to compete I just want to be sure he's in top condition |

I wish putting weight on horses was as easy as putting weight on humans!!  He is getting more spunky and seems to be starting to fill out, so hopefully I'm on the right track! I'm just being impatient. lol |
