| Looking for something to help out a nervous anxious mare at shows. Looking for something that I can feed. But nothing too expensive that's going to cost me an arm and a leg. |

| I use herbs for everything! So for my hotter horses, I give valerian root (powder form) in with their grain right before we leave, or right when we get there. Takes about 45 minutes to kick in. It works extremely well! They aren't knocked out like that are on ace, they are still attentive and aware. But it definitely calms them down a bunch. After using this on a horse that i otherwise could hardly settle down, i will never use anything else now :) just my personal experience! Hope this helped :) |

Location: Oklahoma | I'm a HUGE believer in the Mushroom Matrix ECP. It really helps with focus without making them dead heads. I bought for my stud and used it on him during breeding season. I had some of the best training rides on him. It allowed him to concentrate and focus on what I was asking of him, rather than concentrate on his mares next to the arena. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I used to feed this too my Mare when we roped pretty heavily. It kept her level headed until we ran, yet she still had that fire we needed to make a good run. http://www.teskeys.com/formula-707-calming-essentials.html I also had this on hand just in case. http://www.teskeys.com/formula-707-calming-essentials-paste.html |

Location: Mississippi | I have had some good success with Via-Calm recently. I feed it daily to two of our geldings and one mare. On race day, I give one gelding a double dose - it has helped this one a lot. The other gelding, I can tell somewhat of a difference, but not with the double dose on race day - so he just gets it daily. The mare gets it daily then gets calming cookies on the day of a race - this combo works better for her.
I have tried a lot of these type supplements. I have seen more results from this than any others on these particular horses. I think that different horses are affected differently, and you just have to find what works for your particular horse. It can be very frustrating.
ETA - I have also looked at the Thunder Mountain Minerals. This would have been my next step if I had not had success with the Via-Calm.

| Animal Element makes some great products. Raspberry leaves are great you can feed a handful and it will help calm your horse but word of caution it can take some run out. I prefer the In the zone paste I give it before a run and helps horses focus but not take the run away. |

| Cur Ost Adapt and Calm and when I know he is going to be really anxious (be around cows, hauling to a show) Equisure.
I do have a new horse that I had on Equisure to help prevent ulcers because he was a new horse and it definitely has helped with anxiousness with him. |

A few days ago we had horrible storms all day and night.I gave my beagle a half of a calming cooking and he went from shaking and pacing to sleeping peacefully on his bed:)))). Edited to add I love to use calming cookies on our pony but I also make sure the pony and donkey have their guts right so I'm using THE GASTROGUARD and forco to make sure all is well:)) I feel if the belly isn't working right they will be nervous no matter what you use.

if kept in a cool dry place, they should still be good. THE has a really long shelf life. They are kind of a try and see, depending on the severity of the horse's issues. Some feed one or 2 the morning of and an hour before their barrel race etc, and some start a day or 2 in advance. I have a lot of samples if anyone wants to give the Calming Cookies or Calming Powder a try. |
