| So what is everyone's favorite go to saddle pad for your barrel horses and why?
I have always been a fan of the Impact Gel pads. I still like the ones I have but it is time to replace the old ones. Have several friends that have switched to CSI pads but aren't sure if they really like them. Im wondering if this is just the newest fad around my area.
It would be helpful if you also had any input on what pads you do not care for and why so i don't make the same mistake.
Thanks in advance |

| In my opinion ONLY, impact Gels really retain a lot of heat. Any Gel type pad does that, in my opinion. I really like 5 stars but they are quite expensive. Most of my horses over the years do just fine in 100% quality wool pads ( Several makers to choose from). But I broke down over the weekend and bought my 3 year old a 5 star cause he is growing and changing so much and is a little more narrow than your older horse. I bought the 5 star " Reiner" butterfly shape pad because it really seems to fit nice with a narrower backed horse. Hope that helps! Oh, and I use Back on track under pad with ALL my horses. They really seem to enjoy them. |

Location: Ohio | 5 star would be my first pick and thanks to facebook you can often find some good deals on gently used pads. Rockyroad is an amazing dealer and I highly recommend contacting her if you have any questions or need pricing info.
Toklat T3 Matrix with or without shims would be my second favorite (love both the woolback and felt pads).

Location: Idaho | Ive tried a lot of pads, but I really love 5 stars and currently own 5 of them. However, I have a horse I really want to try a CSI on, you think 5 stars are expensive, holy cow, CSI are super expensive LOL |

| In regards to the CSI pad, I have one horse that I like to use it on and that it really works well for, and on the rest it just does not fit. I agree on the 5 Stars being great. |

I've been wanting to try a Pro pad, I have their boots and absolutely love them. Any idea how they compare to a 5 star? That's what I usually ride. |

Dumb question, but how do you sort through the tack swap pages on Facebook when you are looking for a specific thing? Is there some trick, without having to manually keep scrolling and scrolling? |

Location: Texas | I don't have a favorite really. I have different pads that I like for different reasons. BUT I just got a SPH Performance gear pad and I really love it. The wither relief is my favorite feature, but its also very close contact with lots of feel. I love a pad that allows me to feel the horse instead of feeling like I am riding the pad. |

| Relentless/Trevor brazil pads are also super nice pads and I used them on one horse. I sold the horse and have two relentless pads I no longer use if anyone wants to try them. Just PM ME. |

I have one and I'm still on the fence. The pro roper pads are NOT very breathable and tend to make my horses sweat like crazy but for short rides where I know I need extra shock absorption it works great. They are not thick and soft like the 5 stars, more on the dense/hard side but Im still breaking mine in.
I did notice my back didn't get as sore after riding a few horses that usually jar me to death ( I suffer from SI joint problems in my lower back) so the shock absorption works great for the humans too. Overall its ok for hard/short arena work but I wouldn't trust it moving cattle all day or doing on long trail rides... just builds up too much heat. |

There are a few pages that are specifically for used 5 star pads. I usually on join the ones with the highest amount of members. |

Sale pages have a search option. You can even set it to send you notifications when new items are added that fit your search terms.
My favorite pad is my Saddleright. The one I use every day I bought new in 1998. Get a new contoured liner every year to save the bottom, and they're not lying when they say the insides never compress. |
