Has anyone had both a Roo-hide and a Caldwell? Which did you prefer? Unfortunately, I have not rode in either one and I do not know anyone around me that has either one. I'm currently talking to both companies on sizing and whatnot just curious to see which one is better in your opinion.

Both very nice saddles.  I prefer my Roohides over the Caldwells i've had.   Can't go wrong with either one though really.

Thanks Herbie; do you think they work well on a horse that you really have to sit and hustle?

I do.  Both ride very balanced.  I have a horse that is very difficult to ride and I don't feel like i'm about to become a lawn dart every second in my Roohide.  I have have never run him in a Caldwell, but I am confident based on riding them on horses previous to him that it would be fine as well.  It's all about balance in the saddle for me when it comes to being able to hustle a horse well.

I have 2 Caldwell's, which I love but I wanted something different for this short necked horse that needs a saddle. I have a Roo on order, never sat in one but love the look of the wider tree and how it seems to sit you down low with lots of contact. I'm taking an expensive leap of faith, I was able to ride a Caldwell before I bought those. I am in Texas so sent Brian pics for fit. I'll let you know in a few weeks!

I talked to Brian this morning and am supposed to send pics to him. He seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm leaning towards the Roos but am still a bit undecided. It'll probably be a while yet before I order so I may check back with you and see how you like your saddle!

I can't speak to a Caldwell, but I had the chance to sit in a Roohide and had Brian fit my horse for me with their bare trees. The feel of it was hands down better than any saddle I've ridden before (Double J, Slone, Merrill) and the quality is great. And Brian was awesome to work with and took the time to explain to me everything about the way they fit and their theory behind them. Mine is supposed to be here soon and I can't wait!

Ive had several caldwells. If you want a new one its a one year or so wait if you want one made for you!! LOL I just sold my caldwell ( In 6 minutes, literally, huge resale value) and bought a Charmayne James. Best saddle I have ever ridden.

For me CJ. The caldwells have pretty free swinging stirrups and I find it hard to stay in the middle of my super quick turning horses. The CJ keeps me locked in and I like the horn set on the CJ.

Reinsman is the one I have its brand new. From what I understand the Cactus ones are older??? My keeper says C11 on it. Fits my wide backed mare awesome as can be.

Both are very well made saddles. I would suggest a Caldwell fro you based on your explaination of your horses style.

Just an update on my situation, since I didn't have my Roo when I posted on here originally.

I got my Roo a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE it! It sits you right where you need to be in the pocket, I can sit deep then get up to leave a turn without a problem, and the freedom I have with my legs is great (I can put them where I need them, but I never feel like they're swinging out of control). I also really like the way it fits my horses. I've ridden it on two of them and you can tell it frees up their shoulders the first stride they take off at a trot. They're both striding out a lot better compared to when I ride them in a Pozzi or anything else.

I let a family member ride in mine to test it out and she tried to take it from me! Needless to say, I'm very happy with it and potentially will be purchasing another in the near future so I don't get mine taken from me

After hearing everyone's updated raving reviews I'm kicking myself for not going for the Roo. I went with a Stoney but will definitely be getting a Roo in the future!

They post a lot of their finished saddles on their Facebook page before they ship out. The barrel wrangler (the swells and cantle aren't fully covered, and there's limited options to choose from) are $3,250 and their fully custom saddles start st $4,500. Atleast this was what I was told 2 months ago by Roohide, so don't quote me on that

Saw one for sale on FaceBook out of California. The seller didn't have it very long ... or at least that's what she said. Did not inquire since I'm not entering right now. Thought I'd post if someone was looking.
