Location: Arkansas | We found out today that Daddy's heart valve replacement surgery is Monday. He's 72 and always been healthy as can be. Not on any medications or anything. We're all scared of course; we have been thru many many heart bypass surgeries with other members of my family, but valves are new to us. I absolutely loved his surgeon, and I've not said that about a doctor in a very long time. The best thing tho was his confidence---made Momma, Daddy, and I feel much better. As usual since I found this site, I'm coming to you prayerful people with loving hearts and asking for y'all to lift my Daddy up. I'm a Daddy's girl and selfish in that even at my age I want my Daddy here with me. For all intents and purposes, he's Chandler's daddy too---we all still need him. I appreciate all of you that will pray (and I bet I can name to the person who you'll be) for him and remember our family in your thoughts. God bless you all. . . . |

| Prayers My trainer's dad had to have aneurysm surgery a couple of years ago. He was about 82. Surgeon was very confident. There was one part that we all had to laugh about. He had had surgery of a hernia years before and had some kind of mesh put in. The surgeon said it was like trying to sew leather. Pretty funny and really took the weight off the situation. I am sure everything will go smoothly. |

Location: Arkansas | Thank you all so much, coming here always makes me feel better. I will keep you posted. Daddy goes tomorrow for pre-op and one final test to check for a calcium buildup above the valve. I told him I had y'all praying for him and he smiled--my family believes overwhelmingly in the power of prayer. Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. . . . |

Thinking of your dad and your family tonight as you get ready for Monday:)
Well. . . . . Daddy's platelets were low, so we found out about 6 last night that they've postponed the surgery. To say we are at a low after mentally preparing ourselves for the surgery is an understatement. We hope to know more Monday as to what the plan is and the new timeframe. Please, my friends, keep praying for my family. I will post more ASA I know what is happening. I thank y'all for hanging in there with me |

Location: Arkansas | We have an appointment the 19th with a hematologist for Daddy. Please keep praying for us that the cause of the low platelets is something that can be taken care of easily and we can get this surgery lined out. The waiting is so hard on all of us, but especially Daddy. It seems like our whole county and all the little local towns are praying for him---our God is so awesome. I'll keep y'all posted as I know more. Thank y'all as always for the thoughts and prayers. . . . |

Location: Arkansas | Well, the doctor's office gave us the wrong appointment date, so while I was so excited because I thought we would be in LR the 19th, which would allow me to finish tax season the 18th----nope, found out Monday about 2 pm that I had to file almost 200 extensions before we left for LR at 6 am Tuesday. Stress on top of stress---but I was done and home by midnight!!! Plus we got an easy protocol to get Daddy's platelets up. He's on multivitamin and B12 shots. Hematologist said all the tests showed everything looks good (as I may have said, Daddy was just convinced he had cancer and that was the problem) and he feels like in 2 weeks when we go back that he will hand us over to the heart surgeon to schedule the valve replacement. Y'all have prayed along with our friends and members of prayer chains, and God has answered
I know the surgery won't be a cakewalk, but our family is so blessed that things seem to be falling into place at every turn, even when it seems there are roadblocks. I pray His mercy and love on each of you that are lifting my family up. . . . |

Location: Arkansas | Our next appointment with Daddy is the 2nd, so we expect to have a surgery date probably in next two or three weeks.
My family really has a lot of heart issues going on, so I wanted to thank God for His merciful and loving hand. . . . My uncle had triple bypass surgery yesterday morning (they were the same bypasses from his heart attack 23 years ago that had completely blocked again) and came thru with flying colors
He is in a room and up and moving today. Said he's "sore as $hit" but doing fine!! Some of y'all will remember that I lost my aunt last year in June---this is her husband. He had almost given up on life since Aunt Angie died, so we were really really worried about him. However, by God's grace, he has another chance, and I have a good feeling he is going to take advantage of it. |

Location: Arkansas | We finally have a date for Daddy's surgery---it's next Friday, the 26th. That also happens to be my birthday. Daddy asked if I thought that was good or bad--I told him he was gonna be ok so it was fine either way. I'm scared, and I can say this to the people on here that I know care about me. . . What if something happens to my daddy on my birthday?? I'll turn 48 that day yet I feel like a 8 year old thinking about maybe losing my Daddy. . . . BUT, I'm putting this firmly in God's hands and in His name I claim a successful surgery and healing for Daddy.
For y'all that have been following me thru this thread and keeping up with my requests for prayers, I'm renewing those requests. There is so much going on in extended family matters and with Chan's farm right now (sick fish and no responsible person to leave here to watch the ponds while we're gone) but I know God has this in His mighty and merciful hands and that gives me peace. I appreciate all prayers and good thoughts y'all will send up for us. I'll keep everyone posted as it gets closer. (To the ones who have NEVER let me down thru this, I thank you and love you for it.) |

Location: Arkansas | Well, we drove up Thursday for pre op tests to make sure Daddy's surgery would still be on for Friday. "Everything perfect" were the exact words from the nurses. Doctor's office gave a thumbs up but said rather than 7:30 surgery time they were moving him to 11. We got to the hospital at 6:30 Friday morning, checked in, and started our wait. Chandler and Laura left home at 5 and got to Little Rock at 7 so they would have time to visit with Daddy before they took him into surgery. Around 8 they took Daddy back to get him in a cubicle and and start all the stuff they do to prepare for the actual surgery. Momma was called back around 8:45----about 20 minutes later they both walked back out to waiting room. . . . I thought "oh no, one of his pre op tests was bad." Nope, they had an "emergency" and cancelled Daddy altogether. I thought they were gonna have another emergency because Momma was so mad she was about to have a heart attack. I don't know if something went wrong in the first surgery or an emergency came in thru the ER or what happened. We got no further explanation. I know how I had to psyche myself up for this---I simply cannot imagine being Daddy and thinking they were about to open my chest and play with my heart only to be told "nope, not today." And Chandler was so nervous and scared he almost passed out before they got into the hospital; I believe it's been as hard on him as it has Daddy as far as thinking about this and all that could go wrong. Anyway, we are tentatively scheduled to try again the week of June 12th---IF we can get Daddy back up there.
To top things off, on the way home, our water pump on the dually went out. Friday at 3 on a holiday weekend---I knew we would have to leave the truck at a dealership, but I doubted we would be able to get a rental to even get home. To make my book (so sorry y'all) a little shorter, the service manager went above and beyond when he couldn't find us a rent car at the 2 places in town---he just gave us a demo off the lot, no charge. So after 2 hours we loaded all our luggage and Momma and Daddy (they were completely worn out emotionally and physically) into our little Ford Fusion and started for home. Needless to say, it was a birthday I'll never forget and hope to never repeat!! And an expensive one. . . . |

Thank you all for the replies and thoughts and prayers. And I totally agree that there was a plan for it to work this way---God knows when and why. So for whatever reason, His decision was not that day and I know He "has this". The nurse told Daddy that he's not critical, and that they would have given him the same consideration had positions been reversed. Momma talked about wanting to change doctors, but Daddy and I say no. You dance with the one what brung you----we have heard NOTHING but excellent things about his doctor and I think we should hang tight. They say he's the best valve surgeon we could possibly have; so even with this happening, I still feel like he's our guy.
You made me think a different way, SS---I hadn't thanked God that my daddy came home with me that day. . . . Someone else's may not have gotten to. . . . I appreciate that you said that.

He went with the beef valve and is completely off blood thinners now. He will be 75 in July. Everything will turn out as it is suppose to.

I'm just gonna say that I got chill bumps when i saw that folks were checking on me. . . Miss Roxie sent me an email and said I had some folks worrying about me; I had planned to try to check in tonight any way and so that got me in gear. We've been having a nightmare with an employee that Chandler had to let go a week ago---theft, threats, accusations that we stole a relative's ashes, law enforcement---you name it. So between being behind at work, all that (plus he's got some sick fish), and gearing up (again!!) for Daddy's surgery, well, I let myself get behind on my BHW friends.
We will head to LR Wednesday for pre-op, then God willing surgery is scheduled for 7:30 Thursday morning. I appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts and those of you that cared enough to keep checking in on this thread. I pray God's blessings on each of you for that |

I'm gonna relay this to to Daddy---other people have told him the recovery isn't fun but that once you get your feet back under you that you realize how bad you felt and didn't even know it because you feel so much better. His will be a pig valve; he said no more bacon cause he'd be eating kinfolk
He will be 74 in December, and that's not "old" to me anymore. The doctor told us he has a 95% chance of a much longer life with surgery vs 0% without the surgery. Daddy has NO other medical issues, so we feel like this is a no brainer as far as having the surgery. I hope your daddy continues to feel better and better! |

Location: Arkansas | Daddy went back at 8 for surgery. He was very nervous, and of course my momma started to cry when we walked out of his cubicle----I wanted to also but I felt like I needed to hold it together for her and Chandler. He has a great surgeon/hospital and he's overall very healthy. I put him in God's hands, and everyone is praying for him. I guess I'm just touching base with my buddies on here for support. I feel like a baby rather than a grown woman----but I'm a daddy's girl and scared. And I knew y'all would understand. . . . |

Location: Arkansas | Daddy got out of surgery at 11:45. They replaced the valve and repaired the aorta. They were going to start taking him off the respirator at 3. So we need prayers please for him to start breathing on his own and waking up. . . . . |

Many continued prayers
Daddy has his breathing tube out and is doing good. We will hopefully be able to see him in about 20 minutes.
Answered prayers; our God is good and He does have this!!
Thank you each one for your prayers and good thoughts. They mean the world to my family. |

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | I'm so glad to read that he is on the road to recovery!!!! Just be prepared. We saw my dad while he was on the respirator and that was hard. We only got to see him for a bit before we headed back to the hotel because of how late it ended up being.
Did they do the pig valve or the beef valve? They were planning on the pig valve for my dad but ended up with the beef valve due to sizing. Like I said earlier he was off blood thinners 3 months after surgery so that's a good thing.
We didn't spend alot of time with dad in the hopsital at first because he was in quite a bit of pain and he couldn't hear us anyways because he didn't have his hearing aides in. He didn't really want us around to be honest so we hung out in the waiting room.
Now tell him to follow orders and all will be good. God is GREAT!!!! |

How is he doing?? I bet you are exhausted!
Yes mam, it's been a long and stressful 4 days. But there was a family in the CVICU that had been there for almost three weeks, and will probably be there at least that much longer. The young man (I estimated him to be fiftyish) had had valve replacement surgery 2 1/2 years ago---and now had developed infection from "trash" growing on the valve. He has been on the vent for 17 days (since having surgery on the valve again, as well as triple bypass) and they cannot wean him off. His parents look worn out and just lost. They were so sweet tho, and asked about Daddy each day. His name is Steve, and I told his mother I had a "support group" that I just KNEW would include him in their prayers. . . . So if y'all will, please add him to your prayer list.
My daddy is doing well---he walked today and has been sitting up in the chair almost all day both days since the surgery. He ate better today, and the IV and pacemaker came out this am. They did keep him in the unit tho so they could monitor his heart rhythm after removing the PM. We were afraid that was a setback but were assured that it was normal. Chan, Lula Bell, and I came home today, late afternoon. (Sean had come home ASA we knew Daddy was out of surgery because we had no one else to watch fish at night. As of today he had been up basically 3 days, so as much as we wanted to stay, the three of us had to come home to relieve him.) Momma is bunking with Daddy in the unit . We are having faith that Monday or Tuesday we will make the trip back to LR to bring them home. He's tired and grouchy and ready to come home, but he said he was really not that sore today, not nearly as bad as yesterday. I cannot thank y'all enough for the prayers and encouragement you have given him and the rest of my family. Each of you are a blessing to me. I give God the credit for the success Daddy has had thru this situation; He is so good to us. |

Location: Arkansas | Daddy is doing fantastic--GOD IS GREAT
Momma called me about 7:30 tonight and told me she had food left from supper and for us to come get it. When we got there, Daddy was helping clean up the kitchen--and smiling and joking!! I could try all night to make y'all know how blessed and happy my family is with how this whole situation has turned out---but I still wouldn't have enough words to do God's work here justice.
We go back Wednesday for his 1 month checkup, and I have no reason to believe his doctor won't be thrilled with his progress. I could go on and on, but what I'll say one more time is that I've prayed for God's blessings on each of you that have thought of us or lifted us up in prayer during the past 2 or so months. . . . No words from me can make you know how much you're appreciated.
