Location: IL | I have been reading lots of posts about horse's having reactions to IM injections. If the injections are not being given correctly then the horse will get sore and have weird reactions to the medications. The needles need to be a certain length and given in a large muscle in the correct area. I think many people are giving shots and not doing it correctly. Your needle should be at least 1 1/2" long and you need to make sure the needle is buried all the way to the hub. When shots are given IM and not put in the muscle deep enough then the skin gets a bad reaction. If the horse is moving around and the needle is moving that will also give reactions. Just food for thought! |
