Location: SW MO | I know this has been hashed on here before, and I did a search to read about what others have said about free running horses. I am going to try one this week, and I haven't ridden one that was 100% free running in my past. Usually, I have had push style horses, the closest one to free runner I had was a friends horse thatI ran for her- he was a huge gelding that would run to his barrels, and you had to sit down and put your hand down for him to work. If you held on to him or checked him he would blow his runs. I am looking at a free runner because I really fit that other gelding- and I am not an aggressive rider. I have had push style horses in the past, and I rode them past but I know I don't ride aggressively enough to really push one. My style is to sit back on my pockets, hustle a little and then sit at the barrel and put my hand down- letting the horse work. Am I going in the right direction by trying a different style? Or should I buck up and try to get more aggressive? |
