Equioxx is an option for pain management if nothing else can be done. Of course, it's not treating anything, but it can be very useful for making an older horse comfortable.

I'm thinking of trying equibone on my 13 year old with fusing hocks. Haven't started it yet though. Another option for joint maintenance is pentosan or adequan.

To me, if a horse needs hock injections, do it. My thought is aggressively attack the issue and then follow up with feed supplement and/or Adequan/glucosamine shots. This is what works for me. :-)

If a horse is sore, inject. Using BOT hock wraps before you run and ice boots after your run will add comfort. Using products such as Sore No More, green jelly, or other products after each ride helps too.

I use pentosan as needed-sometimes as often as weekly if we're going hard or on crappy ground (especially if I rope-this is a heeling and barrel horse) I like magnetic hock boots as well after riding. I like to use back on track or draper therapy BEFORE to help warm them up a little easier.
