Expert Posts: 5293	Only experience I can add is we sometimes have standard patterns with 40' score instead of 60'. The horses usually run about a full second faster on the shorter score so thats 40' feet SHORTER than standard ( 20' coming and going)SO 10' I would PREDICT to be about a 10th or 2.

Expert Posts: 1367 Location: mi	From what I can find via google a horse averages 25-30 mph at the gallop with a record of 55mph. If a horse averages 30 mph on the run in and run home that would put him traveling at 44' per second. that would mean 11 feet would be 1/4 of a second on to your time.

I have gotten in to the habit of counting strides at the NFR from the time the come in to the arena to when they exit and most do it in I think 36-37 strides. That would make it a 3.7 second run....

A stride around a barrel is going to be much slower then a stride running in or home. that being said its not a super accurate way to measure as my little mares strides are no where close to being able to cover the ground that a big old beast can. she would take 2 to most horses 1.
