I have an 11-year-old mare with lumbar pain off and on, especially on her right side.  I know there can be a hundred different reasons for this and I have her worked on every 2 months by an exceptional chiropractor (Brett Boozer).  She has not had a Caslick's yet, since I didn't think she was going fast enough to need one.  My question is can the lack of a Caslick's be causing her lumbar pain?  I know it's said that mares suck air and get sore, but I am wondering just exactly where they get sore.  I am planning to have one done soon anyway, but just wondering.

Typically lumbar pain is actually an SI issue. Or that's been my experience. Whenever mine get the SI adjusted, the lumbar pain goes away.

As for the cause, could be numerous things. Even the mares with Caslick's have lumbar/SI pain at times.

Thank you, SKM.  Now that I think about it, she had her SI injected earlier this year and I think her symptoms were about the same.  I guess we will be off to see the vet.
