Location: Missouri | So I picked up my colt from the trainer and he leaves the 3rd barrel so hard, I get left behind and popped out of the saddle, then spanked a stride or two. I am pulling myself with the horn, hard as I can but still being left. Any body position, leg, seat etc. ideas? Am I waiting too long to pull? The 1st and 2nd aren't nearly as bad, but the third is killing my back and occasionally hitting my tailbone on the back of the seat. |

| Watch these girls. They don't really get up in the saddle as much as leaning forward. These are big powerful horses that are going to pop you up some.

Also notice that their saddles have plenty of room in the seat. Make sure that your seat is big enough or you cannot get your feet forward enough get you forward
You might be able to what I am talking about with Pete better.

Location: North Dakota | I've been working on this during the winter as I brought my mare back to work. It helped when I was starting back slow and to really tune into my horse again. I found myself being too eager around the barrels last year which actually in turn left me behind leaving the barrel because I wasn't staying with my horse. I slowed it down this winter and really just worked on staying with her and I haven't gotten to put it to use yet as we haven't made it to a run yet this year but I have high hopes! |

I would guess timing is off or stirrups could be adjust/saddle too small.
I had trouble with getting too far forward - I try to wedge my elbow into my hip bone. I also shortened my stirrups so I wasn't struggling to keep my feet under me.
I agree too with going back to slow work and just working on relaxing in the turn and staying with him |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | You will have to change your style. Instead of "hanging" on. Sit you butt heavy, push into your stirrups evenly. when your hand is on the horn "push" as hard as you can as if you are going to shove it to your horses head . Remain there until your horse has popped you up over his withers and ride hard. With this you should be in rythm with your horse. |

Same. Building my core has been the only thing that's made a big difference in feeling like I can keep up.
BUT when I forget to sit deep and push on my horn, it'll still rock me a bit. |

Location: Missouri | Okay so some clarification on a few things. Saddle seat size - I had been riding in a 15, lost weight and switched to a 14. I was told my issue on a different horse was I was all over the place because I was in a 15. Sturrips - I ride short, so I think we are good there. Horn - so what your saying is to continue to push on the horn all the way around the turn? Not just going in? I do push going in, then begin to pull on the backside to get myself up and forward. Core - I go to the gym 3 to 5 times a week in the morning before work. I have been working on strengthening my core, maybe I need to work harder.
I have gone from 145lbs to 120lbs |

| I shortened my stirrups a hole on the horse I was getting left behind on. Made a world of difference! Felt funny at first but worked well. Now I had to lengthen them on a really really ratey cutting bred mare. From 1 extreme to the other!!!! |

| Here is a video of a collection of runs by Lance Graves. Even while sitting down to get around the turn, his back is rounded so that he doesn't lose foward momentum. He scrunches his butt down and a little bit forward for the sit, but his upper body doesn't sit up or back. It's basically a crunch in the saddle.

| Grab the mane, push with your feet, and strengthen your core. |
