Location: Georgia | Is anyone else having problems with the professional choice shearling girths or am I the only one? This girth is less then a year old and has not been used a whole bunch. The shearling is falling off the girth in chunks. It did not hold up well for a $70 girth. I'll try to attach a picture.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | A few years back I did have a problem with the PC girths, but it was not the shearling coming out it was the piping like upholstery piping along the edge of the shearling and it would rub my horses raw after use and it never got better and I had bought a brand new one thinking maybe it was that one grith I had was the problem so then I had two of these rubbing, I email Pro Choice and told them about my problem with their girths, they had me take pictures of them to show what I was talking about on the griths and showed them that the piping on the edges was causing to rub, they were really nice about it after I got someone that would listen to me, I send these two back to them and they replaced them with new ones that didnt have the piping, I bought a couple of Classice Equine shearling griths and they are nice, really like the Classic Equine. So I have the Prof Choice and Classic Equine.. My Prof Choice never have lost any of the Shearling. Call are email PC and let them know whats going on. |

I send them an email through their website 2 weeks ago and never heard back. I also tried to reach out to them on Facebook with no response. Im about to try to call if I can find a customer service number |

| It probably was "tanned" in India, China or Mexico ...
their acid processes leaves nothing to hold the wool
or throw rugs of cow skin with hair will fall out ....
I dislike the wool type girths, they wad up, twist up and
collect trash and dirt like a magnet ... and most are backed
with an unforgiving nylon strap that leaves no expansion
for breathing room.
Solve your girth problems and order a roping mohair girth from
DM TACK ... get the square topped girth ring to balance the girth
strap pressure. His site also tells you how to measure and where
to place your girth with a string so it will fit..
These things will last forever... wash them in
woolite and keep on rolling .. |

Location: nj | I have one that I had brought through smithbrothers that it happened on the end after very little use - I talked to smith brothers and was told to send it back to them to process... but it was my own fault that I didn't do it right away.. cause now no more smithbrothers- which really makes me sadder then the girth! |

Location: Oregon | This is by far my best selling cinch and I’ve never seen that – definitely get in touch with Professional’s Choice. I believe that one is a USA made product (but don’t quote me - I'm not in the shop right now to verify lol)
>>>>Edited to add: just emailed my customer care person at Prof. Choice and I learned something today!
" It is either from the cinch not being cleaned and the salt and sweat from the horse has rotted the natural hide backing, or the customer has put the cinch backing through the washing machine, soaked it, or allowed it to stay wet, which has also ruined the natural hide backing. This cinch is like UGG boots for your horse- soft and fluffy, but natural leather and sheepskin which can be high maintenance. We recommend that extra care be used for keeping this cinch nice. Take a damp/dry cloth or sponge and wipe it down after each use and allow to dry completely after each ride before using again. Store in a well ventilated area away from the sun or extreme heat. Never put through the washing machine as it is just like a saddle or other piece of leather equipment and will be ruined."

Location: USA | I bought a brown one and a black one and they both did this. Infuriated me that I wasted $150 on two cinches that didn't hold up at all. |

I cleaned the cinch on a regular basis. I actually found this huge hole as I was cleaning it (there is another smaller one towards the end). It never went through a washing machine or was allowed to stay wet. Also if there are special cleaning instruction shouldn't they attach those to the girth when you buy it??? Because I don't remember seeing any and I read everything that came attached to this girth. We shouldnt have to ruin a girth that they dont sell extra liners for to learn how to properly clean it....

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I've had that happen after a couple years. I have called Pro Choice and complained. They told me what Katies Coast to Coast said. Even if they last only a year I still use it because I think they are by far the most comfortable cinches out there. Salt is what ruins them. Don't put them in the washer and rinse throughly with a garden hose quite often. |

| Never had this problem with mine, I wash mine in the washer 3 times a year, and they get used daily year round and never had this happen. Right now I have a few that are coming up 3 years.

| Use the Merino Wool cinch. They hold up better and are more forgiving if you wash them wrong or don't wash them. But don't have the natural hide backing, it is a woven wool backing.
The hide on the back of these is very thin, and just like was stated above...it's really just like UGGS or leather. Would NOT put through the wash...and I have seen salt from the horse sweat rot right through much thicker stuff like breastplates or headstalls.
If it's out of warranty...it's out of warranty. Not really a "defect" on their part.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I have been useing the Prof choice cinches for many many years and I have never had mine to lose the fleece, I love these and the Classice equine, the only trouble I had with the PC were the piping that one time and they did replace the 2 for me and were really nice about it once I got someone that knew what I was talking about. Did you call them with that number I posted for you? |

Location: Georgia | Finally got a response from Prof choice. Lucky me my girth is 8 months old .
Also shouldnt they include these "special care" instructions when you buy their product???
Hi There-
Sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your cinch. Unfortunately these are very delicate and have a natural hide backing, which means leather. Due to the acidic enzymes in horse sweat and salt they can rot rather quickly depending on how hard you ride or the conditions of use. Washing in the washing machine or hosing it off can compound this process as this as it is a leather item and water can accelerate the breakdown in the fibers of the leather. The best way to clean this is by wiping down with a damp/dry cloth after each use. Please allow to dry thoroughly before your next ride.
If your cinch is under 6 months old we would be happy to replace this item for you with the copy of your receipt. You might want to try the Merino Wool Cinch instead as these can be hosed off and do not succumb to the natural breakdown from salt and sweat as quickly as the Shearling Cinch does.

That is why I went with one of their girths this time! I ordered the sensor-flex which I should have ordered in the first place.

Location: California | I love these cinches, but yes you have to take care of them. I wash mine and then put a couple of squirts of a liquid leather conditioner (I like Leather CPR) in a bucket of water and swish the cinch in it before hanging it to dry. |

I use medical grade shearling wool soap. |
