 Some Kind of Trouble

| Has anyone ever had this happen? Don't believe it's infection, just a reaction of some type? It was less than 24 hours after injection... hard swelling, no lameless just some stiffness. Treated with bute and cold hosing for 3 days.. the only remaining sign is some swelling that doesn't seem to be going down any farther. I have been in touch with my vet, just wondering if anyone else has had this and how it was treated. |

| Sounds like classic symptoms of a " Joint Flare" . I had that happen in a coffin joint reaction once but not hocks. My vet said its not uncommon and most vets will give IV bute during the injection appointment for this reason. Usually appears in about 24 hours post injection and lasts no more than 48 hours after that. |

| I had a mare that would swell every time she was injected. Vet had me give Dex , ice the hocks. He had me give Bute two grams for three days and 1 gram for 5 days. |

Thanks, that's what I thought also (the joint flare)... I'm mostly just wondering if I can do something more to bring the swelling all the way down. It came down some, but not all the way. He was injected last Thursday. My vet had me stop the bute and turn him out a little... he's moving and acting good, just some swelling remaining. |

Thats a hard call. Usually if it is an infection they are dead lame with lots of heat, but I would have thought it should be gone by now. |
