| I don't know if anyone is interested but I feel for those dealing with this. Foal and owner.... my boy has been super strong. He is still sad and lonely but physically he has come around wonderfully. We have moved him to the round pen at my house (he was about a mile down the road in the barn) where there is grass and my other three can visit through the fence.
At first he did get a little ganted on me. It took me 2 days to get him eating the milk replacer pellets good. He is on Progressive Nutrition foal creep & starter. He also has access to Blue Bonnet's Growth, Omnis cubes and grass hay. He eats about 1-1/2sc of the milk pellets, a handful of blue bonnet, 1/2sc Omnis and about 1/4 flake hay per day. I'm also still giving him Gastrogard since the trip to move him was a little traumatizing. I'll start weaning him off of it tomorrow.
Maybe this post will help someone with an orphan down the road.
Pictured added of him at 7 and 8 weeks old. The wet picture is the 7 week picture. He got a bath. He officially has no idea that he is a horse...

| My 3 hang out with him up there. I let him out with my gelding yesterday and he stuck so close that my gelding got mad. I thought about a mini donkey or something. I'm afraid whatever I put with him will eat his milk replacer. That stuff is omg expensive. |

Yep that would be a problem having another friend in there with them eating his feed, maybe have another pen next to his with a mini Donkey, just a thought.. But your doing a good job taking care of him, he looks like hes holding his weight real good. |

| Mom mentioned getting a short goat and putting chicken wire around the bottom of the round pen so it can't get out but hanging his milk replacer in a bucket on the fence? |

You have done a wonderful job. A friend would help and having someone to teach him as he grows. I have a pony that I use as a weaning buddy. I have also used a goat. |

| Thanks you guys. He has been really strong and made it pretty easy on me considering. He might be coming around to liking me a bit. He still won't come to me very often but he talks to me when I walk down there and isn't scared of me at all. I can walk up to him and move him around no problem. Today in the round pen he started taking off playing and then he'd stop and turn and look at me so I think he might be loosening up a bit. I'm still working on a buddy for him. I think I have decided to go with a goat. Watching the weather. Might have to lock him in the lean to this week. I hate the thought of it. |

Location: TN | I am 3 weeks today into raising an orphan, "Amazing Grace". Grace lost her mom to a uteran artery tear. She layed around but did not role we took her to MS State she lived 5 days. it was long enough to get the gift of life,her colostrum level was 1800. Grace drinks mares match from a bucket every 3 hours around the clock. She nibbles on milk pellets mixed with alfalfa pellets and mare/foal. We tried a goat but wondered who cried more at night. so gave the loaner goat back and found a friends mare who did not have a baby this Spring as surragate. Grace looks all under her for milk from time to time but since there is none and the mare walks off its not been an issue. I wounder how long to keep her on milk replacer? its very expensive. |

| The progressive foal creep says to feed it free choice through 4 months also. It is around $1 per lb. At the moment he is eating about 2sc per day of the progressive and 1sc per day of the bluebonnet growth. |
