So we have been stuck just out of the money or dead in the middle of the 1D everywhere we go. This gelding is coming back after kissing spine surgery and of course I'm just now feeling like we are getting the time off kinks worked out so I feel like this was a pretty solid run with no big errors that cost us time. Just curious what everyone thinks are some things to shave tenths. https://youtu.be/27SBs8_JIm4

You didn't finish your first barrel and you were having to pull him over to the right to get him set up for the second. If you can get him to finish the first barrel you would be able to push his ribs over to the right so that he's got his nose tipped in toward the second. Also you want to be running a straight line between the first and second barrels. Looks like he hesitated just a bit coming out of the second also.

I would say the step off the first is what cost you the most - and in talking about 10ths of a second that's all it takes!
Can't control what other folks run, all we can do is put in the work to make the best run we can possibly make. Enjoy the fact that your horse is back to running and keep working out those kinks, you're so close!

Do y'all think he just needs a little more room going intO it? I am very happy to have him heathy and running for sure! It was definitely a scary time last year when he was throwing himself on the ground when i would saddle him.

Thank you. I've also been working on dropping some weight since I hadn't run barrels in a year I put on a little extra weight. I'm down 5 but would like to be down another 10 to be where I was before.

Looks like he could use a little, yes. He did a good job not coming back on it by stepping out, I think a little more room and he could flat smoke it.

It didn't look like he really stated to streatch out and run until he came home. If you want to shave time off clean up the first a little and send him harder in the pen. That is what I saw, but I can't feel whether he is really running in to the first or not.

Too tight of approach and starting the turn too early at the first barrel cost you a tenth or two. It caused him to slow down in the turn and step off on the back side . Didn't stay round and didn't drive off well at the second which cost another tenth.
Jordan Briggs on Trainingbarrelhorses.com has a good figure eight exercise that will help polish him up in finishing the turns.
